USA 1970 911T - the Tangerine Dream

34Nm feels pretty loose on these but I guess it's a long bar. Undertray and petrol tank all painted.

I put in £10 of fuel... none was on the tarmac, went for a drive and put another £20 in. No smell of fuel whatsoever.

That refreshed pedal cluster feels great, but idle when hot is still as high as 1,500 revs. Not totally sure all 6 cylinders are firing below 2,500 revs so will check the plugs. Leaking idle jet on cylinder 4 is the main suspect. Lots of pops and bangs, particularly on deceleration. One of the neighbours said he thought there had been a shooting as I drove past.

Is that normal? Looks to be leaking from the driveshafts on both sides. I should probably check the level before doing 100 mile journey. Already lots on the to do list today, though (on top of a full day's work, and before departing at 3:15):
Sweep floor
Fit washer jets
Clean windows
Oil indicator stalk
Assemble a tool kit
Charge battery
Check alternator operational
Fill with fuel and recheck for leaks
Replace rear sidelight bulb
Attach front number plate and bracket
Fit fire extinguisher
Adjust fast idle
Check plugs and adjust carbs
Fit rev-limiting rotor.

I put a normal 17/19mm ring spanner on mine , a rag on the free end and heavy with all my might.

That will be the output shaft seal gone.
Not a quick fix, s top up and do in the winter.

Thanks. Why not a quick fix? What broadly does it entail? Andy what's it good to do while you're in there? Only observable issue I have is that first gear is pretty crunchy, predominantly because the clutch seems not to totally disengage. Have to be careful to stomp it right to the floor.

Got this 3.2 oil pressure sender as an upgrade from the 911t pressure switch. I don't want to lose the original light in the dashboard, so by inserting this here the switch can stay too.

Not sure if I'll just put a gauge in the engine bay, on the dash or connect one as and when I'd like to check it.

I assume taking a pressure reading here works the same on this engine as it does on a 3.2?

Awaiting the perforated through-bolt that goes through the cube-shaped adapter.

Straightened out this tatty old thing and put it in paint stripper while I'm in the centre tunnel tightening things up.

In the rear access, the accelerator linkage had no support Bush, so I put one in - before and after.

The front Bush was disintegrated - the old is pictured next to the new.

That's that one in place next to the gear knob. The one in the handbrake opening I've left for later. It's probably unwise to remove the handbrake lever while the car's on ramps.

You’re going great guns here Rob. I wish I was as motivated and diligent.

This is where the real play was in the accelerator linkage - the bell crank. I have the nylon bushes on order but got impatient and drilled out a pair of bronze bushes to M10 and fitted those.

I seem to be using lithium grease on everything simply because it's easy to place precisely with a spray can.

There was no bush left on here and I added couple of washers to stop lateral movement. The accelerator feels great after this - absolutely no play whatsoever.

Remember to replace all the gear linkage bushes under the gear lever while you have it 'open'

It was tricky to get the grinder in so I switched to a hydraulic nibbler for the internal corners. It didn't work very well but I got there.

Saying butt clamps will never not be funny. Panel appears to fit. My mission today is to not weld the grips to the car.
