Ok, got the bug and can’t leave it alone ha.
Torsion area of rear wing is in good shape but a small split underneath where it joins the tub.
More evidence on the side of the sill showing a plate welded in. Think it’s had a new jacking point but will need obviously be cut outer sill and wing to investigate further.

Doubt I will get time to start the other side until December but appreciate all your comments and help!
Also another pic showing cleaned up lock panel….

Looking in daylight I don’t think it’s a plate. It still has primer on it. Need to clean it back better.

Looks like it’s had a few interventions over the years.
I’m seeing at least the outer sill, inner sill (maybe partial), jacking tube, jacking reinforcement, kidney bowl and lock panel in your near future…

Yeah your right. That’s what I’m planning for Gary.

Guess it’s the norm for these cars now unfortunately.

Thanks Lee

Thought I’d ask the question:

Example, the bottom edge of my rear driver wing shows lead filler. Would a body resto require for the lead to be removed with a propane torch and then tig welding a repair plate ?
This would mean a lot more cost to the resto of my car. I have some other lead repairs to other panels.

What is the general thought?

Thanks Lee

Just my 2d's worth.
Doing lead is no joke, so if used it is by someone with skills and pride. Is there real isues under that lead/
Any bodging will be seen and feelable.

If it is clean inside that wing I would be very tempted to leave the lead there.

Difficult to judge that from the pictures.

Here is another lead repair and pretty clean tidy repair .
I would say a broken check strap and it had a different mirror in wrong place.
Thanks for comments much appreciated!

That is more quality work right there.
Spreading lead and finishing it 'filler-free' is a skilled job, esp over those large areas.

I've done a bit of that but not over such a large area.

Anyone know the part number for the tube for the cable release for engine lid?

Thanks Lee

911 502 483 00

No idea if Porsche sell them as I made mine from two steel tubes from B&Q with a careful sleeved join and the end flared with a round pointed chisel.

I used copper fuel tubing back in '88 with the same approach! :)

Hello, happy new year to you all. Got Covid during Christmas so back in the garage as I’m going round the bend ha.

The bottom edge of the front window has gone. Is there a small repair panel or would this be made up by a metal guy?

That’s all the windows out!

Thanks again!

The restoration design panel for this area is pretty good, mine went in with only minor adjustments, but if it’s just the flange and the return then it’s about a hour to make a repair patch if you’ve got a shrinker/stretcher.

You may find the corrosion has gone deeper if it’s holed and it may extend under the panel into the top edge of the inner wing and the dash.
