At waist level things got nasty, the bottom of the windscreen posts was rotten, the bottom of the rear window frame had rot and the parcel shelf was in a bad way. When I got the dashboard out I could see the rot had extended into the upper dash area and the windscreen cowl was bad. Everything below was completely solid. Conrad Sinclair-Peek who was doing the body restoration would have to work his magic in this area. As Conrad got deeper into it it was clear the corner repair sections I had sourced for the windscreen and rear window would not be sufficient. As repair panels were not available for for the cowl area and rear window frame separately, I took the decision to buy the complete cowl, windscreen frame, roof and rear window frame panel from Porsche. I big expense that i was not counting on, I would not use the roof though and that was sold on.

Never seen so much rust in those areas before, esp the lower rear screen corners. Just done mine, and at 60mm of local rust I thought I had it bad...
No wonder you have elected to do those roof panels.

I stripped the shell down as far as I could take it and sent it off to Conrad to work his magic.






With the dash and glass out, this was a real shock.

The car would now spend a considerable amount of time at Conrad's work shop, I got up there as often as possible to see my investment in mostly genuine Porsche panels start to pay off.

Rear quarters off to attend to the kidney bowls

inner and outer sills/rockers were sound and we retained.

not as bad as the left side, but this is why i needed the full windscreen roof panel. Restoration Designs now do a cowl panel, would not have helped me as i need a bit of the frame too.

the roof, windscreen frame, cowl, rear window frame arrived from Porsche in a huge crate, same size as a 2CV that happened to be in the workshop. the lower windscreen frame and mid/lower rear window frame area would be used. The roof would be sold on.

The inner wings appear to be in very good condition.

Delving into my driver's side front screen corner tomorrow, but from a good feel around it is solid except for the actual screen surround rubber rebate.

As Gary71 has said, lots of projects underway, but mine is a light touch compared to this and others.

I was surprised at what was lurking under the dashboard, have you seen yours? As you can see I had to have a fair bit of fabrication done to solve those areas including inner windscreen lower edge that the cowl butts up to.

They required no repair work at all, I would love to know how this car was stored for all those years, probably with a tarp channelling water into the A post area!

I did my 'corner' at the front today, details in my little (by comparison) thread.

My dash is solid as a rock, but had surface rust, so caught it all just in time.
That scuttle panel looks great and well well worth it.
