Sounds like my 964 ... You could have saved yourself some time and searched out a nice proper hand drive 964 out in Germany

Photos! My car's been languishing in the Moss Museum for nearly two years and seems to be way more camera shy than the 993. I thought I'd seen it in the background of one of the facebook photos, but no, it turned out to be a Capri on closer inspection.

On the subject of rear wiper delete, let's see how serious your OCD is. Pretty debilitating, I suspect...
When I did mine, I stumped up for the screen without hole when a 20p rubber bung would have sufficed. Having done that, I suffered another attack of expensive OCD when the cut-out in the rear parcel shelf started to bother me. So off to Southbound it went for a retrim...

Richard, I think your OCD will out do mine.
But your rear speakers deserve some sort of prize. Ghastly!

I'm hesitant to talk about in car entertainment because it won't be long before someone comes along saying 'you don't need a radio, the sound of that flat-six, blah, blah, blah...'
I don't listen to music that much in the car (no sound system at all in my Carrera) but I did fancy something for the 993.
The original front speakers are dreadful quality. They are Nokias with paper cones and certainly have no place in an expensive sports car. I doubt Porsche paid more than 50 pfennigs for the whole set.
Look at the state of mine, I'm amazed they worked at all!
I'd guess the originals are 5.25" diameter, my modern ones 6.5". They needed a modest cutting of the door card to fit, but really only a shave. The new units have magnets twice the size and weight of the nineties set up so I'm expecting an improvement.

So, onward with the strip down...

Rear deck lid removed...

There's a lot of parts in a 993 rear lid. It contains the spoiler assembly and that has a complex mechanism for extending at speed and retracting when slowing down.

Another 993 failing is the spoiler drive mechanism. There's a bearing in the drivetrain and it corrodes and wears. The original bearings weren't sealed well. It leaves the car with a terrible graunching sound every time the spoiler goes up or comes down. Nothing drastically harmful but it sounds like it is. My car was like this when I bought it. I was horrified so I quickly fixed it. The photographs shows the gearbox being glued together after replacement of the tiny bearing (an electric motor connects to one end of this part and the cable drive shaft transfers motion to the cog driven lift mechanism).
It's not too tricky, the parts are pennies and the spoiler is whisper quiet once more. Quite frankly how anyone could be deaf to that and not undertake a simple repair amazed me.

The spoiler also has a plastic 'curtain' which reveals itself as the spoiler lifts up. That too often fails. It's only polypropylene and the constant folding & opening causes it to split and separate into two parts. Again easily fixed and not too expensive. It clips in. In quite a few places. Mine needed that sorting so I sourced a new part and installed it during the renovations.
