more and more metalwork repairs.... progress at SVP is good and they are cracking on with a "paintshop by Xmas" informal deadline. As far as I'm concerned thats when the fun bit starts...i struggle to get excited by rust and welding whereas paint / interior / spec / mechanicals ie it starts looking like a car again is the bit I enjoy
new floor section in:
floor / sill:
door post / sill area:

Understandable.
But nice work going on there nevertheless, great photos and great progress. Very thorough.

Same here Dan, so I leave the metalwork and paint to others......who then chop the rear off ! Some way to go before I get mine back.
Yours is looking good though and will miss the majority of winter roads and be ready for Spring ?

a useful reminder for us all but especially any newbies
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RUST FREE 40 YEAR OLD PORSCHE
its just marketing spin
the only way it will be rust free is if like this and other similar projects, the rust has been painstakingly chopped out and fresh metal welded in..... look what lay behind the outer wings:

if it wasnt for the steering wheel I might have struggled to tell which way that car is pointing Ian !
i had a major "want" after I read that Alfaholics article...funnily enough similar to where I went with the RSR...modern technology where it enhances performance. Never had an old Alfa (had a GTV V6 and a 33 cloverleaf) and have an urge...

starting to look more like a car... cyclops!
the kind of thing Mick does in a spare lunchtime...new floor section welded in both sides now. I will be using weld in seat rails...I just prefer the lower position and the recaro sportsters sit up quite high as standard
half roll cage going in next week (custom cages)
I will be having std inertia reel belts but also 4pt harness in case I do any road rallies / events...nice to have the option
I had a minor flirtation with some rather nice Elephant racing dampers that Dom had on ebay...probably for the best that I wasnt quick enough...v nice kit but not exactly cheap

there may have been some slippage Darren
anyway who would want a new car to drive in Jan or Feb what with all the salt on the roads
hows this for a nice bit of metalwork.... a small modification to the RHS front wheelarch which will allow v neat routing of the oil pipes...which once the shell is painted and the pipes are in will be covered up with a lwt plastic wheelarch liner

Loving that oil pipe mod. What kind of oil lines will attach to it? Those push fit style aeroquip ones or normal bolt up jobbies.
