Winter project

Many years ago, when the late Marc Haynes (of the car manuals & museum) was racing, he was one of the first disabled people to be granted a race licence. He had an American actuator system fitted to the 915 gearbox in his 911 as part of the adaption to hand controls. Apparently US racers used the system to get faster shifts from the 915 gearbox. The museum still have the car, it would be interesting to see if it still has all of the hand controls fitted.
Answering Graham’s earlier question, I only drove the Nomad once, at Prescott. From memory the gear linkage worked perfectly, but there was an internal fault in the gearbox causing it to caulk out of 3rd gear, and at one point in the paddock it managed to engage 2 gears at once ………….
Several rebuilds (and maybe a completely different gearbox!) later, that is obviously not the current problem.

I do hop my set-up will work at Prescott in a few weeks time. Will know first practice run, and if poor have all of Saturday to hone things more...

Not sure what your linkage is made up from, joint wise, or just completely solid, but all the joints on any Grp A car that I ran, with linkage ball joints and rods, I used Helicopter UJ’s ..............expensive (if you do not know the man in the Stores Dept on camp ) but basically set up, fit and forget?

Went in the 70 911T to the Canford Classics Porsche Pull-In. Great ultra relaxed south coast turnout of early cars. Met old 356 mates. Saw some DDK grill badges. Breezy then turning hot. Moving pictures on @motoreye

I took the 356 out to a friend's birthday party in Milton Keynes. The car didn't start as well as I would of liked on the way back. Then the indicators stopped working and the rpm counter started bounced. This is a sign that the battery or charging system is knackered.

The battery was at 5.9v so I put the battery on charge overnight. I also ordered a new battery. The next morning it was fully charged and I tested with a health tester. 50% State of Health. It was 90% last time I checked. I think I'm going to leave the battery on tickle charge now rather than charging too full and leaving it. Then recharging before use.

Next I ran the car and checked the volt on the alternator .15v. I was composing a curt email to Tudor Alternators when I thought about doing a few more checks as there should be 6v across the alternator even before the engine runs (from the battery). Next I found a wire that had come away from its crimped connector. I had been driving around with a live wire from the battery discharging to earth!

New connectors bought and fitted.

Shame I missed this as I've been to previous ones and I now live relatively local. Where is this event advertised as it would be a shame to miss the next one? It doesn't seem to have been advertised on Canfords own website, the last news item on their website was for the 2023 Pull In - !

I got an email reminder from them sometime ago if I remember rightly, then ordered through Eventbrite in April - no charge..

Went to Warwick classic car show today, and met some new fellow porsche fans.
Hopefully spread DDK to some more newbies.

We took the 914/6 for a gentle run through the lanes to a PCGB gathering at Dunkeswell airfield. A bit more leisurely than last weekend at Shelsley Walsh!


Met up with a couple of its great-grandsons there, good to see that there's still the occasional bright yellow Boxster!
