Finally got a better spring for the door latch and put a retaining clip on. Then I put the door card and handles back on. Unfortunately, the 3m dowel pins I bought where a fraction too small. I cut an M3 bolt and filed it to size. Added bonus is I found a driving glove I thought I had left on the hard shoulder on the way to Berlin and a spare set of keys missing for 3 years!!!

Hopefully, it will be much longer than 2 years before it's apart again.

Test drive to a nice lunch with good friends this afternoon.

Had a few issues with the gear shifts on the Lola, silly failure that became a real pain.
Will need some deep tinkering tomorrow!

Me and one of my daughters took the 964 to the pcgb Yorkshire Porsche festival .

What struck me the most was the lack of aircooled cars these days . There were a few gems though, some lovely 356’s and a couple of 912’s and early 911’s

Ditto the Porsche Club Ireland national BBQ last week - as it was, for the first time ever , in Cork , not in Dublin, I took [with the help of friends ] all four of my Porsches, plus VW T4 Dehler Martini support truck [as seen at CLM a few times] - so three aircooled, one transaxle, I reckon I increased the aircooled roster by at least 40% and transaxle by 25%, including only 914 there!

Watched that on live stream. Sorry for your problems - hope they're simply solved.

Yes, bloody irritating as you can imagine.

Hope it is just some fine adjustment in the peace and quiet of my garage on my own, or a total re-think of what has been THE major stumbling block since I have raced the car and the root of much frustration.
But, at least it is not the £££££££££££££££££££££ gearbox!

When running in the right gear in the right place the car was just great.
The engine will pull like a train from about 1000 rpm to 8000, pedal to the metal.

Set to today, me V Lola.
After5 hours I won (I think).

Had a real fight to work out the registration of the gear lever to the gears and then to find reverse.
Doesn't that all sound simple?
Added to this was a need to re-locate the driver's side silencer to the gearbox to brace it against moving, again, sounds simple, but oh no it wasn't. So much is moving in this mechanism and little space to get a simple support through, but found a spot that worked.
Heat did not help today.

My hesitancy to say it is fixed, the war is over, is you never know with these race cars until you are on the hill.
4 weeks to wait for Prescott!

Nope.
It is as direct as I can make it, been through that one!
The 3 long shift rods are as straight as I can trying to keep the angles to a minimum and hence reducing any side forces causing too much friction.
If the engine was 'upright' then it would be a lot straighter.

The mechanism produces a 'gate', close to a H pattern, and the two vertical springs give me a reasonable 'block' going from 4th to 5th and 3rd to reverse. Keeping away from accidental reverse is a very good idea at 100 mph!
It needs a good pressure to compress those springs, in fact quite a slap to be honest. 5th is there but disabled when Mike Bainbridge re- built the box.
The box has a WEVO internal gate that was a waste of money, but still in there fitted after Mikes re-build by another. I hoped it would provide a 'gate' effect but beats me, no different to the stock guide.

Thinking of making some kind of drop bar to remove the 2 springs and so block the 5th/reverse location.

The reverse blocking bar can be lifted in the paddock to allow reverse engagement, thus it would need to be adjacent to the gear lever. Not much room to do this.

Probably the hardest movement is 3rd to 2nd, several times I end up in 4th....That error and cost me 2 seconds as it did twice at Shelsley Walsh last weekend.

Have also tried a 'Ferrari' type plate open slotted gate, but far from easy to get the dimensions right, but a 'project' for the next few weeks to think about.

Such a gate would guide the shaft with the 2 large locking nuts.
I do not want to modify the original Lola gear lever arrangement, but it would be better if it was appreciably longer, ie 20mm, something else to try but with it's own difficulties.

Our Jonathan Williamson drove this drivetrain years ago when it was in Terry Davidson's Nomad at Prescott, but has never said how he found it.

This issue has plagued me since day one with this car.

Remade some seat brackets...Seat now sits lower and is positioned towards tunnel to be inline with the steering wheel, feels so much better







Read that 964 RS N/GT cars had wooden "floor mats" to prevent foot slip when wet...sounds believable

Nice idea on the seat Chris. When I fitted my new seats there were two holes and I initially chose the one the most inboard but it fouled on something - think it was the seat belt receiver bracket so I had to move it back. Might be worth revisiting the idea…
