Bit of a risk game imho.
If you are DIY and keen and the car is exempt I can see why you skip the MoT.
But, have a crunch and then convince the police that you have been maintaining/checking the car over time may be a bit harder, esp if the crunch is serious.
£40 well spent once a year for some if not total peace of mind.
Just my opinion, no criticism meant towards anyone.

I don’t mot my 73 anymore
I MOT'd the 912E for the first time in 4 years earlier. Glad I did, as I was reading the small print of my Locktons breakdown service and in the small print it states cars must have a valid MOT. So worth checking up on that just in case you ever need it. To be clear I didn't need breakdown in the end, we fixed it on the side of the road, but I had called them to start the process.
Thats a sneaky one if it is the case . I've not checked my classic line breakdown smallprint

just checked on classic line :
in the breakdown section :
if you are travelling abroad you must ensure that
the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition at the start
of the journey or holiday and it has been regularly
serviced by a garage or yourself in accordance with
the manufacturer’s recommendations;
in the general section of the overall policy :
The vehicle must have an MOT (unless exempt), be taxed,
insured and registered in the UK and you must:
•
take all reasonable steps to protect your vehicle from
loss or damage;
•
maintain your vehicle in a roadworthy condition; and
•
let us examine your vehicle at any reasonable time.

I’m also with classic line so good to confirm the ‘unless exempt’ part. Thanks

Ok panic over and apologies, I checked and have had it confirmed that if the car is MOT exempt it doesn't need an MOT. It just needs to be well maintained and roadworthy

Annual trip to the MoT this morning, feeling confident.
Have been taking it to this village garage a few miles from me for 30 years now.
After a very close looking over (normal) it passed with ease. (of course...)
Ready for an evening pasta treat this evening at Shelsley Walsh, Prescott visit on Saturday to see the old stuff racing and a few oddities.
Car show week Saturday by Worscester wiith a lot of other cars as part of a village fete.
Need to clean and prep the Lola for a full fat race meeting on 7/8 June.
Getting busy here.
