Oil Tank

Post by Darren65 »

Many on here will know the 3.0 RS & RSR oil tank differed from a standard tank and was a racing part with increased capacity that aided oil flow and engine cooling and was coupled with a pressure relief valve that protected the oil system against excess pressure in racing conditions.

I'd been promised one of these for quite a while although unfortunately that never materialised and eventually purchased this one from carpoint.de who were super efficient and delivered within two days.....

Image

I'm not sure who makes these (and it's a shame it's not Dansk as it would retail at a quarter of the price as per what happened with 100L steel fuel tanks!) although all the Porsche parts dealers seem to be selling the same product with different margins. Not cheap however with recent experience I can emphasize on how expensive it is to produce parts in small batches that have a tiny market and to be fair it's a very decent reproduction of the original....

Image

....seen here with an excellent reproduction of the RS/RSR Pressure Relief Valve from EB Motorsport with hose and Argus fitting from Brad Davis.....

Image

...it's all going to look pretty cool when nestled against a set of slides in the engine bay

Awesome Darren!

For a while I thought the 2.5 S-R had an enlarged fuel tank as well but it was another myth!Image

FWIW:
Standard for me too.

This car will be too elegant and exacting for a 'rough-arse' look. Race cars get that rough look by being treated that way.

The wheel design is certainly of the period so should be kept imho.

Doesn’t matter which you choose, we’ll wait until you’ve done it and then tell you it would have been better the other way ;)
The simple things you see are all complicated

As long as you have the 10k rev counter all will be good in the world.

1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

....just the steering wheel James, the original beige dash is currently being recovered black and the interior will be standard lightweight as per the first pic above - it's a question of whether I keep the regualr plastic hornpush or ditch that and go for the modded centre push as per the RSR.

And correct 10K tacho is certainly a feature Rob :)

As far as lightweight interior is concerned any supplier recommendations for the door cards?

Appreciate the input chaps :thumbright:
