The battery up front idea would be better for weight distribution, but then you have to add 5kg of cable back to the engine and starter! A plastic rear window will help a little and won’t compromise usability, but only a couple of kgs

Finally got out in my car to collect and fit my newly made steering wheel, built by Springall. So good to be out in the car again…… 230 miles covered with little traffic hindrance……happy days…

Lithium battery may give you 10kg saving and help with balance... expensive though.

Failed to put my UJs back together. Rolled dowel pins installed but couldn't get beyond 3 (out of 6) ball bearings back in. Tired for ages. It appears that swearing at the UJ doesn't help. Very frustrating as it takes Ian about 30 seconds on the video

There is a knack to it, are you putting these in dry? You may find it easier actually putting the CV grease in as you assemble them.

Turn the cage upside down and try again from the other side. Definitely a knack and easier to get most of the balls in whilst the cage is still at a steep angle. Then try and hold it all whilst you wiggle it in place.
I’d keep it dry for assembly as it’s hard enough as it is without it all being slippery

Drove to GOODWOOD for the revival, watched the racing, came home.
So relieved to discover the horrible sounding clunk was just my coffee flask rolling around under my seat. But I have definitely confirmed that the alternator isn’t charging well, as the battery was discharging all the way home. Had to push start at Newbury and then just drive, fingers crossed, back to Leicester. Made it despite the charging issues but did reaffirm to my Tesla owning buddy why he likes modern cars. Apparently you aren’t supposed to get battery anxiety in a petrol car !
Absolutely love the racing at revival. And the race with the Alfa Guilia holding off the Plymouth, while 3 Ford Galaxies jousted for position into the chicane, mixed with Lotus Cortinas, an Anglia and several Minis !! This is motor racing at its very best.
Needless to say the car otherwise ran brilliantly and was a delight to drive. Now to stick the battery on charge and investigate the charging problem, and maybe clean the mud off!

Well the car won. I think I'm waving the white flag. I got both the bearing and hub in without much drama. Putting the brake caliper back on was a different story. First I tried to put back on with the pads on and nearly got it on but had to take the pads of. When I did get caliper on it was off centre and the outside body of the caliper was touching the disc. This meant that the caliper wasn't centered and I couldn't get the outside pad back in.

The obvious problem is that the disc isn't sitting true on the hub. Yet I tightened both screws up and the disc seems to run parallel. However, when I put wheel back on there was some place. Maybe my problem or maybe because the axle and nut weren't in place so there was no tension on the hub and bearing.

I don't have the heart to take off and try again.

I think it will load onto a flat bed so someone can correct my mistakes.

It's been a bit all rubbish recently. Work, home life and hobbies. Friday wasn't another day I almost walked out of the office. A time sensitive pricing system we rely on was taking 90-180 seconds to respond to a mouse click. Not ideal when you are trying to react to NFPs and not get your trousers pulled down by hedge funds knocking at your door.

As someone once told me don't worry it will be more shite tomorrow.

There is a knack to putting CV joints together. You align the cage with the inner part, then align the outer piece so the wide gaps line up with the small gaps on the inner parts. Start putting the bearings in going clockwise or anticlockwise it doesn’t matter but don’t miss any balls out. Do it dry so it’s less messy. There are a few videos on YouTube that explain it. Once you have done one the rest are easy and you will wonder what all the fuss was about!

Driver's ego bruised, Car chassis all ok, fibre glass front nose needs some school boy TLC (fibre glass and rattle can).

Tedious but easy.
At my age I should know better.
