Hi flyingjolly, thanks for pointing that out, and can I welcome you to DDK and the forum!
With your vast knowledge of all things font like, any idea where one gets old style plates?

Sorry for being a smartass in my first post here, but thanks for your welcome
I had a shop around here who once bought an original machine for theses plates from the vehicle registration office, but as i just found out it seems they went out of business.
This shop:
http://www.licenseplates.tv/germany-eur ... -2049.html has the right ones too. That "Bundesfinanzverwaltung" sticker with the german eagle is wrong however. There should be the sigil of the administrative district of the plate (Leonberg in this case).
this is how it should look like as a front number plate (the hexagonal sticker is for passing emissions)
rear number plates have a round sticker for passing MOT
i don't know however if Leonberg had stickers or plastic badges for ASU(Abgas-Sonderuntersuchung)/emissions, HU(Hauptuntersuchung)/MOT and the sigil. Although i suppose that around 1968 every district still had the plastic badges.

You hear that slurping noise? that's the sound of Mike salivating(!?) at that level of detail. You've made a new best friend flyingjolly (Don't under any circumstances give him your contact details though - restraining orders can only go so far)

I'm waiting for him to tell us how many sugars the mechanic had in his tea in the factory canteen the day he screwed the number plates on
Fabulous Mike , absolutely fabulous .

Hi flyingjolly, thanks so much for that information, you really are the brains of the "Bundesfinanzverwaltung", the scholar of the
"Sonderuntersuchung", the Professor of the "Plakettes".........as well as my new best mate!
A contact in Scandinavia has come up with somebody there who makes them to the correct font, and I'm just waiting on another
place in Germany to confirm that they can do them as well, failing those I'll take your advice and try the US one.
The Plakette's or Stadt badges as I thought they were called is another thing, the best picture I have showing them looks like a
red one on top and the yellow below, which is interesting as I thought they were both the same colour depending on the area,
I got Baden-Wurttemberg as it's the area for Stuttgart which seemed appropriate but maybe it could be a Wolfsberg which is red.
The picture is interesting apart from the number plate as it shows the car the night before the race just before they starting
converting it to take the place of the crashed team car. You can just make out the top of the 'T' between the front of the rear arch
and the door gap, the race engine hasn't gone in yet as it still has the single outlet exhaust on, but you can see the cutouts for the
megaphones, and no Shell decal as mentioned before.
A quick word of warning as you are new to the forum flyjolly, beware of a guy called 'Sladey' who occasionally posts on here, it's
best to humour him, he's recently taken up welding and I think that fumes and toxic splatter from his attempts have had an adverse
effect on his mental state

, thanks again.

Ok - little break from the p1sstake. The car does in fact look utterly amazing - but I do want to see more pics. The build story and pictures would make a fantastic coffee table book. Can't wait to see it in the flesh
