The '69S set-up (throttle bodies, stacks and trumpets) is bigger than the 2.2S version. 46mm trumpets versus 42mm IIRC.

Throttle bodies are the same 1969 vs 1970 at 38mm. Linkages seem all the same, so that's good.
Only difference is, exactly as you said, stacks taper 42mm (top) to 38mm (bottom) on the 1970 car, whereas it's 46mm to 38mm on the 1969.
(TB to stack stud spacing also differs, as you implied, but that doesn't matter since I will use the 69 TBs and stacks as a unit).

I think this will work fine for my purposes.
It will at least get me up and running, so I can move on to troubleshooting and adjusting the basics of engine, clutch, gearbox. Will probably return the 69 stuff to its rightful home at that point, and leave any serious testing of the '70 until I have the correct TBs fitted.

So wrong, really. Poor 69S.

It will at least give me a chance to tidy up a few engine bay niggles. New fuel hose probably not a bad idea, for example.

I think your copy of the Karma Sutra must be the advanced edition. Mine doesn't have any tips on the use of braided hose.

I will send you the picture from page 39 of the Karma Sutra which has a clear illustration of the breather hose in an interesting position. I understand that the braided hose was the forerunner of the "French tickler".

Driveshafts

Unbrako 12.9 screws, Schnorr washers (correct way up), Dog bone plates, proper grease - check.
Grease in a bag means squeezing it into the joints is slightly less messy than it could be. Bit like icing a cake, apparently.

Having already filled one side with grease and fitted it to the car, I remembered the gaskets... 2nd time lucky, all good now.





Naturally, given my recent form, this was going much too well and my luck couldn't hold. Sure enough:



The stretch bolt into the diff turned out to be rather less stretchy than I'd hoped (sheared when torquing it up - not mega torque, 44Nm IIRC). Opinion differs as to how reusable these are. Mine turned out to have reached the end of its service life.

Better to find that out now rather than later Richard!

It seems to me that you have a simplified differential. The are some good threads about this at Pelican. Have you done the upgrade?

Ah yes, the one that self destructs if you remove both bolts at the same time!

In fact I had an old style bolt, which as you say is usually found with the ‘70 fragile diff. But my diff has been upgraded (to a LSD).

The nipple bolts are not old style. They were specifically designed for the simplified diff (i.e. without the armature), year '68 to '71.

For upgraded standard diff (armature added) or LSD, the bolt part no. is 901 332 275 12

Sorry, yes, that’s what I meant by old style: my broken bolt was one designed to work with the ‘70 fragile diff (hence the nipple on the end).

Have you checked to make sure you have the correct joint flanges (gearbox side) for your LSD? I don't think they are interchangeable. Maybe this is the reason why your bolt broke.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the part numbers are as follows:

Joint flange 901.332.209.22 (for open diff)
Joint flange 901.332.209.21 (for LSD)

The parts catalogue is misleading as the .22 is not listed.
