Hi Mike,
Definitely would vote for a single lollipop. I am quite happy with my tailor made GRP hollow-shell lollipop that I got from Patrick Zimmermann of DP Motorsport....
Cheers,
Christian

Why a 'lollipop'? I'm ready to learn something new every day...
As to the cage:
I would suggest that if it is made from the correct material and configuration it will pass the Scrutes.
A study in detail of the MSA Blue Book will guide you.(safety section).
I think we need a lot more 'progressing' pictures!

lollipop's only really came on the scene in 74/75 but I've recently been sent a picture of 'my' car with
what looks like one in when it arrived in Sicily for the Targa practice in 73. it didn't race with it, but it
looks like they were trying it out, a prototype seat in a prototype car!

I had a long talk about this issue with a Porsche engineer (Wolf Unger) who was involved in the late works ST and subsequent 2,8L RSR racing activities and he confirmed the usage of lollipop prototypes in the '73 season. The lollipops started to spread widely in/ after '74, thats right...

really interesting stuff, thanks for your help Christian. Too many people around with lightweight Recaro's anyway, good to be different!

Good news! things have finally started to come together at Sportwagen, (I'm not their only customer remember

) and we're nearly finished!
The window frames are made up with the glass in and the doors are on, bonnet and engine lid on with the nos GHE catches, and finally the new
rear quarter bumpers and rear panel have gone on which I was really waiting for, it will be running with the prototype no over rider look, so the
black brackets and black insides of the bumpers show, looks really mean.
Talking of the rear bumpers here's a shot from a while ago as the guys at Unit 24 who are doing the artwork paint were masking up for the
painting of the shell logo.
Over in Essex tomorrow to finalise a couple of things including the rear mud flaps which I'm looking forward to, it's these little
bits of detail that are a bit different that I enjoy the most. Here's the original showing that mud flap:
that picture was taken as they worked on the prototype, the 'T' car at the Targa Florio that year the night before the race to
transform it into the replacement for the crashed team car, the crashed car's bonnet is on but still to put the shell decal on
the bumper.
Another interesting bit of detail is the lack of trim in the rear window surround, a feature of the early 'R' type. We thought it
might be a bit risky without it as the trim helps tension the rubber but I suspect it was a glass rear screen in the original as
perspex would definitely flex too much. So I've gone with glass as well, a plain rear screen sourced from a Swedish rally RSR,
only a few stone chips!

Nice work Mike and nothing wrong with a few stone chips... it might even get a few more!
When doing the artwork, I hope they're going to cut off the M & N of Martini correctly

Wow, awesome build with such a passion for detail!
Should the "Leonberg" number plate be a detail from the werks cars? What bothers me about them, is that you put in a lot of effort to make everything period and model correct, but you have the "new" number plate font for the euro plates, from around 2001 on.

Bu*ger Mike,
didn't see the number plate font thing coming!!
However, what a privilege it will be to see this car in the flesh. I can feel the excitement mounting already.
Regards
Mike

I'm sure that even your photos don't capture the real beauty of this car Mike - you're going to need a team of security men/women & some portable guard rails to keep the crowds away & the sticky fingers off !
