When the failed pack was removed in the garage, he showed me the pack after the new one was fitted, so cooled down a bit but the sealed pack head block was noticeably hotter than the tube to the plug. My plugs were changed about 15k miles ago.

MOT’d a couple of weeks ago and used it more so far than I had in the last two years!

Checked the old survival kit in the ST. A bit of a wash and were ready for the Classic Le Mans trip on Thursday.

For the first weekend in ages I did absolutely nothing I didn't want to. I had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend tinkering with the 3.2 in the sunshine tracking down the cause of an erratic idle. I worked through the DME test plan, checking every wire, fuel pressure, vacuum hose, power supply, air flow meter, temp sensors, air flow meter, idle switch, idle control valve... I knew the problem wouldn't be straightforward, having eluded multiple garages previously. I finally honed in on the signal to the idle control valve. It receives a 12V common and two switched Earths which pull the valve open and closed repeatedly at high frequency. I'm pretty sure one of the signals is absent.

Trace here of the crank speed sensor while cranking the engine. Voltage is below the 2.5V threshold but I can see amplitude increases with frequency so I think it's within spec at tickover.

The 3.2 idle valve crops up regularly as a culprit.

Another weekend and another Classic car show…
Yesterday it was ‘Wheels Up North’ at the Westmoreland Show Ground.



Now, I know it’s not a Porsche (and I’m not a member ether) but they kindly let me park away from the ‘Hot Hatch brigade who where in the words of LL Cool J rather “Boom, boom, boom with the booming system”.

Yeah, will add some heatshrink once painted, found some in red.....The tolerances are too tight for the 1/4 inch (been in US too long) PVC tube sleeving
