Yes 8 x 15 on the rear

Currently sat on a bollard broken down about half a mile from home.

I spent all day finishing off changing a doorhandle and getting the driver’s door back together. Upon finishing I went for a quick celebratory blart and picked up some petrol. I turned up a hill, felt the power loss and it was at that moment I knew I would not be going home soon.

I managed to crawl to the side of the road on the starter motor.

My only guess the cylinder head temp sensor so giving it a chance to cool down, see if that helps. I'm pretty sure I didn't put diesel in.

Only a classic Porsche can make breaking down look cool

After being fed up of all gas bonnet struts lifting the rear corners of the bonnet hinges (including mixing in old nearly knackered ones) fitted Rennline mechanical struts.

Yes I tried all sorts of hinge adjustments, making their holes bigger, including letting the bonnet fall on my fingers.... which was the tipping point for buying the Rennline ones.

(Hinges are Dansk, but at 500 a pair of Porsche ones, I think bloody not)

Not today, but yesterday. Sold the 914.

Probably overkill but I changed the gearbox oil after the trip.

I also added led taillights, indicators and an led relay. The led lights don't take enough current to switch a mechanic relay.

Huge thanks go out to top bloke Mike Bainbridge who unsolicited gave me this DME test plan a couple of years back. Invaluable today getting the hot rod back up and running.



Confirmed cylinder head temp sensor working, confirmed spark. Confirmed zero fuel pressure at rail. Confirmed DME relay working, power to fuel pump. Confirmed zero fuel pressure at fuel filter.



Directly powered the fuel pump, it was just clicking. Percussive maintenance elicited a whirr and I'm back in business. Lovely spot for some tinkering today in the shadow of Lichfield cathedral.

After a challenging week where one of my new shocks bust a seal and started to leak, resulting in me have no rear suspension until Thursday night before a race weekend…



I have to Gaz we’re amazing and machined me a donor shock and had it to me within 16 hours - totally fantastic.

All put back together and at Loton wearing new slicks….

Well done. Talk at the French Hill climb was about how many Avon's they could store and for how long seeing that this year is the last of their production!

Luckily I have developed a wheel fetish, so have the new slicks for hills, the old ones for highly abrasive circuits like Anglesey, another set with wets and a set with Toyos for track days. The Avon factory situation cemented pulling the pin on a new set now

Fingers crossed something will get sorted otherwise hill climbing records will be safe for a few years!

Well, Yesterday was OPC South Lakes 75th birthday fun day so I popped a long in a ‘fake’ Porsche…





My pick for car ‘I’d most like to take home with me’ was this rather nice 2.4S.
