Mike, get that motor into MY Lola. Might keep up with my class-mates then with Millington Diamond 2.5's..
The dizzy needs a proper test.

Here's something from the dizzy testing, all a bit technical so I've expanded more and posted on the technical archive thread
for those who are interested in that kind of thing.

Basically we're optimising the distributor that we've built up over the past couple of years on Neils new testing rig. It's an
electronic pick up system that Pertronics in the US have developed for us, so as well as checking the phasing of the twin pick
ups we are concentrating here on the advance curve.
You can see it's giving 13 degrees in the distributor which translates to 26 degrees at 8000 rpm crank speed, remember the
dizzy runs at half crank speed, so by dialing in 4 degrees advance at idle we will get the 30 degrees advance we're after.

Everyone tried to talk me out of it, but now the doors and windows are coming together really glad I went with the black look
to the insides.

I think most of us are too!
Looks really good and very different.
You must be getting a lot of re-assembly underway now, was hoping to see it at Silverstone Classic or similar.

Thanks Martin, things moving along well now. Latest little task was trial fitting the wonderful spare wheel strap made for me
by DDK'er Gary71.
It's a great part which he kindly made for me 2 years ago using some webbing I had found, but such has been the time scale
of the work at Sportwagen the tank has only just gone in to try it out! Depending on how you fit it in, it can go the high route
over the corners of the 110 litre tank or round the sides, the front fixing point being the underside of the latch support.
Gheers Gary, appreciate it!

Mike wrote:really pleased with this my latest find, a NOS racing rear view mirror!
Never seen one before only heard about them, so had been looking for one for a few years when this one came up in Italy.
It's longer, narrower and much lighter than the standard one, they're actually from a 914-6 but the racing boys utilised
them for the ST and RSR's.
Mind you didn't think to try the 914 guys, ebay will probably be awash with them now!

Mike,
Do you have any period pictures of cars that used this mirror? I have not been able to find many.
This might be one:

I have one of these too for our ST project, its narrower than the standard mirror (and lighter) but not wider.

Hi Alex, the only picture I have is this one showing the mirror in the 73 Targa Florio winning car, not a hundred per cent sure
as I wasn't looking at it at the time, but it seems to be the same. The overall width is 220mm height 48mm.
Hope that helps.

The mirror in the racing picture is 12/27 ths. the width of the visible front air intake grille.
Measure the width of the front air intake grille and you will have the width of your mirror in that car.
Regards
Mike
Edit: as a cross reference you can also check the width of the mirror with the know width of the front black horn grilles also.

Looked at a picture of my own car and the mirror is 10/27 ths. in the same dimensions of mirror to vent so I think it looks like the targa car Above has a mirror approx ten percent wider than mine which is the original RS mirror.
