Congratulations Andy. Look forward to seeing it.

However, can we all be a little less enthusiastic about a none Porsche!!

Ps Hugo what year is the 356 in that photo. The no trim bummer means pre a?

1960, Phillip Island Australia (hence rhd), Leo Geoghegan likely followed by Tony Basile then Gavin Youl. I think the 2nd place car is a T2 A with bumper trim removed

.

I've started a separate thread on the car in the 'Member's Others Gallery' section:

- but for those unfamiliar with the Lotus Elite, this video by Charles Morgan gives a good insight:

I came very close to buying a “new” Elite in 1970 as a daily driver. It was advertised in the local evening newspaper. It had a bit of a back story - whilst in the middle of the build (it was a Lotus Kit) the seller had separated from his wife and subsequently divorced. The Elite sat in his garage unfinished for a number of years but was eventually completed, registered as a new car (H plate) and put it up for sale. In the intervening years he had lost the door cards and I recall him telling me the new ones had cost him £25 each, a lot in those days. The price from memory was £550, we could not agree a deal and I walked away. About a month later the seller rang me and offered me the car. However by then a MK1 Lotus Cortina was mine and a venture into road rallying was on the way.

The Elite would not have been my first Coventry Climax engined car, my first car, bought when I was learning to drive, was a 1938 Morgan 4/4 DHC (that is another story) which had an overhead inlet, side exhaust (IOE) Coventry Climax engine of 1122cc with its origins in a fire engine pump, as did the Elites FWE Engine – but there the comparison definitely ends! Strangely, although it was designed to drive a water pump the Morgan engine relied on thermo syphon (convection) to circulate cooling water – it had no water pump!
