Clewett all on order now.

Looking at the ignition system hardware now.
Clewett say use Magnecor 8mm leads carbon with resistance of 3 to 5K ohms / foot.

Can these leads fit the standard Porsche plug caps? that is the screw connection used for the copper wire leads.

I have used 8mm carbon leads with Porsche spark plug connectors without any issues, did not use Magnecor though.

Who did you use please?
I've been told you can simply screw the caps into the fibres of the lead.
Sounds too simple!

That’s how you fit the caps to the leads. Yes, it is that simple.

Good to read, I thought they would need something far more special (and expensive of course).
Special certainly = £££££££ in my recent experiences.

Bad weather in the USA has delayed the shipment to Clewett, but they could leave then on Wednesday International express, so maybe early next week delivery here.

I hope to get this lot all bolted together by the end of the month and start to get it back in the car and fire it up before mid Feb.

Who else makes the lead wires in the UK?

As long as you get the screw in the centre of the lead. Beru seem to have a lot of trouble with that.

I’m sure you know but NGK plugs are widely counterfeit and generally shockingly poor quality. Make sure you only buy from reputable sources (not cheap ebay deals). [/end of public awareness broadcast ]

I've bought all my NGK plugs off eBay and never had a problem

I'm aware that the screw is somewhat blunt so starting off down the centre of the lead to 'hit' the core reliably is a challenge, that's why I tought there would be a special crimp terminal that would take the 'self-tapping' screw of the cap.

As to plugs, bet there are rip-offs, seems true of everything good, but will keep my eyes open.
The voltages talked about are intense to say the least.

Need to work out the best location for he 2 3 coil packs.

Thinking of the engine cross beam as the lead routing would be short, away from exhausts and short.

I used Accuspark 8mm silicon carbon with genuine Porsche spark plug connectors. I used NGK plugs with resistors as the non resister ones caused interference with the ecu, they are about £2.50 per metre of lead and so far are working well.

If there is an alternative I’d take it. I had a custom set of leads made for when I had my megasquirt efi system and was less than impressed with the build.
