They look great Darren! as I'm fairly new to all this I was surprised that cookie cutters were available in 73. when did the first start using them?

Thanks Jos…..I think they first came as standard on 2.4E's in 1972 (possibly 73MY).

I am really interested to see you do this Darren, given the quality of the resto and the general but understandable paranoia about rust. Albeit you're now past the winter, I am a convert to winter tyres in general, using them on my daily drivers. Everything is subjective and I am not in love with cookie cutter looks, but, with Fuchs costing an arm and a leg, expect we will see more of them in the future.

I am often in the Cotswolds for weekends between spring and summer so will pm you to see if you fancy a drive one day.

I'm not usually a fan of Cookie Cutters but they look great on your car Darren - Light Ivory seems to show them off to their best.

Having fitted the cookie cutters I really appreciate how good the Fuchs look! …....the XWX's do help though.

I think they look OK and are totally liveable……just nice to see the car in a truly 'factory' look, a change from the norm and they'll certainly work for winter.

I'll have a drive later in the week for comparison and then tuck them away until it snows.

Well that was different!……

….not exactly wintery however tried out the new wheels and tyres for the first time tonight, a nice twisty run through Barnsley to Bibury and back….

….initial thoughts were that the tyre (195/65 rather than 185/70) felt stiffer than the XWX's, I guess less bounce in the side wall and the car felt a little more direct. Also had the feeling that back end wouldn't take much persuading to step out especially noticeable on long sweepers where the car seemed to follow a different line…..biggest shock though was how much lighter the car felt (less tyre resistance?), almost like having power steering!

Really surprised at how different tyres can make a 911 feel. Anyone had a similar experience?

Yes.... You know I've been moaning about my car s handling .... Peter showed me how tyre pressures can make a huge difference in the wy the car handles ...... I'm now thinking the tyres are the actual problem .. What you've described , the way the rear feels like it dominates the handling , as if the rear could step,out on fast sweepers , this is exactly the problems I'm having.

Put mine and johnMs car next to each other and rock them, johns doesn't budge on his avons, mine moves all over the place due to movement in the side walls

Most people run tyre pressures way too high imho

You also can't really judge a set of tyres till you've scrubbed 500 miles off them.

Probably a little too mild for the winter tyres, I'll give them a good go later in the year.

Tyre pressures...I was advised PSI 29 front and 34 rear....sound good?
