I’m still having the pleasure of it’s company over Xmas. Barry won’t be ready for me (Darren is keeping him busy ) and I won’t be ready for him either.

After fitting 50 screws, ten clamps and fiddling to make sure it’s all lined up I then took it off again as I’d forgot the jacking point welding access holes...

Time passes and now after a plug weldathon it’s never coming off again! Front edge now needs the detail work to get it all lined up before butt welding it in.

Did you count how many plugs welds ?

And a disc's worth of grinding too!
Will you bother grinding them Gary?

If it's any consolation I forgot to put the jacking point braces in when I did my sills in '89, but it was painted when I remembered.

Don't use them anyway.

Yes, I’ll grind them. They came out pretty flat as I had the welder turned up, but still need a lick.

Thanks, yes it’s porcelain tiles, not the best surface to weld/grind over but great at everything else!

This isn’t a five minute job...

More welding this afternoon along the front edge working the panels together then a flap wheel on the welds to get rid of the worst of the lumps. It’s a shame as the actual welds came out pretty well!



Then fitted the pedal support bracket I made a few months back and stood back to view all the work I still have to do!



You see the bottom right corner and the back edge to heelboard isn’t fixed in as this will give Barry room to do the torsion bar repair.

Tomorrow I’ll fit the little mounting brackets for the footboards (which I need to rescue from the old panels) and flip the car up the other way to make access easy for the rest of the floor welding.

They look really Gary, if mine I would have left them 'full'.

On these plug welds the metal proud of the surface isn’t offering any strength, and there is obvious penetration on the inner flange.

They would be really obvious even under stonechip so 15 minutes with the grinder is time well spent
