Did the back shocks on the 964, finally. Then took it out for a run - the first of the year! Was a wee bit of joy that I've desperately needed for a few weeks now!

Does filling up the Boxster and the 911 count? Probably not... but did confirm that the petrol guage is now fixed fixed and shows full when it's full

996 gauge doesn't register any fuel if you add less than quarter of a tank. You have to add more before it registers anything. I assume Boxster is the same.

No my race car gauge is spot on - I fill it from a Jerry can at race weekends and it always moves accordingly, even if only a couple of litres at a time

My 2009 Boxster shows additional fuel no matter what you put in.

In more water cooled news, the Boxster Tip project fired first time after the engine change, and the Tiptronic drive works (which was all totally new to me, so a result).

964 MOT booked - starts now on the key with the new crank position sensor and the oil breather pipes appear to have cured the leaks, but won’t know for sure until I drive it

my turbo was the same .. I think its a 4wd quirk due to the shape of the fuel tank

Still no air cooled action but will remedy that

Thought this may be of interest to other early Boxster or 996 owners

Mentioned the other day the 986 Stereo seemed to have blown

Actually it was a speaker that had blown but decided to upgrade it all a little but keeping the factory look

So first a new Bluetooth and Tuner from Blaupunkt. The Madrid 200BT

Nicely featured with a decent output and blends well with the dash - usb port can be used to pop media into it or as in my case a simple power output for phone charging


Will delete the CD holder underneath as no need for that anymore!

Then to the speakers - if your 986 didn’t come with the upgraded Bose system the speakers are crap

So purchased this kit which includes Alpine 2 way speakers and some adapter plates, wiring adapters etc so you can use the factory grilles and wiring



Instructions are clear and it’s a quick job to get the new speakers mounted onto the old grilles



All installed and sounding much better than before

Got the speaker kit from these guys - very quick service

Those speaker panels look great.
I don't mind the standard equipment in the 987, I had the Bose in the 996 and never really been a fan of its sound, though getting music through a 3.5mm jack is a pain when your phone doesn't have one..

After upping all the 911s lights to LEDs I felt bad for the Boxster and its next to useless headlights so put some H7 LEDs in at lunchtime (thought I'd see how they went before springing for the H11 full beams). Went in no probs and no dash errors

Let me know how you it is once you’ve done both beams. Have you driven at night yet ? This something I’m contemplating doing to my spyder (987.2)

Should get a chance to go out this evening so will update. Also 987.2 so didn't want the faff of returns if it threw errors.
(Put exactly the same ones but H4 in a R56 Mini.... errors, but then it's a R56... it wouldn't be the same if it wasn't complaining about something!)

Bit more Boxster here today.
Took the clean car to Wales to run the 'Chris Harris' favorite road and then into the Elan Valley, back home via Bridgnorth.
Ran great, 33.8 mpg (hit 29 once), 200 miles and turned 75K miles.

Car now needs a jet wash tomorrow.
Good to get out to very quiet roads, coffee and some Bara Brith.

Very nice. In what did you do to your Boxster today..

Quick run down to the supermarket, not quite Wales I know... Happy with the LEDs no one looked miffed off coming the other way. Might turn them a degree or two as in the straight and down position at the moment and can actually see the road. So will order the full beams too

took it into the paintshop for the bonnet to be sorted out, got a lump in the paint that is getting worse.

Not expecting good news, but it will get sorted.

The best bit was the 26 mile trip to get the 4 miles to the paintshop....
