Congrats Graham, you must be well chuffed, all the brainstorming over the winter has paid off

I took the 996 on a 200 mile round trip to see some old friends. We regaled each other with memories before Google maps took me on a wonderful B Road route across the country to Greatworth on the return leg.

The Mezger turbo is a wonderful engine to drive, the car so sure footed and it eats up the miles like an aeroplane on a runway.

Matt's S/T engine is set out ready to build looking very authentic, so many carefully selected parts going into it. I can't wait to see and hear it burst into life.

Fitted my period Momo Prototipo, solid hub and Momo Porsche crest horn button which I’ve been um-ing and ah-ing about fitting since I got my S.

Question is: stainless steel or black bolts (I have both)?

Out of interest, how does one attach a celebrity (or otherwise) ball as a gear knob?, aren't they just full of rubber bands? ( the ball, not the celebrity)

Yes, a million miles of thin elastic band with a semi solid marble size inner, I think.
All from memory of a factory visit in the early 70's to Penfold.

As to the screws, matt black every time.

Thanks re the screws - that’s what I’ve decided too. New Momo hub box raided for parts and no longer for sale seeing as no-one wanted it!

what diameter is that ? Looks 350mm ? which you might find feels a bit small . 380mm is a sweet spot on the early cars imho

Yes, it is a 350mm ‘Made in Italy’ 2nd gen, but I’m always looking for the unicorn 370mm stacked logo 2nd gen in black…

Or I could fit my 914 380mm thick-rim wheel and hockey-puck before it goes on GeLo…

When searching for your parts keep your eyes peeled for one of these early large crest chrome ring momo buttons.



Personally I think black screws on a black wheel and stainless screws on a plain ali wheel.

Thanks Ralph, something else to add to my list then! Black screws will be fitted too.

Bit of a mini adventure with the Boxster today.
Took it for a minor service with Zuffenhaus as usual, oil etc, nothing hard.
Handed the keys, paid the bill and drove off to be followed by HUGE HUGE white smoke cloud going down the road which did not clear.
This car is very sensitive to over-fill of the oil, and Zuffenhaus know this quirk and leave the top 2 dash board level segments 'empty'.
Checking the lever at Zuffenhaus it showed FULL.

Drained some oil out of the engine, dash showed top 2 segments empty.

No white smoke, drove home a dream.
Checked the dash level on the level drive, well, 3 segments now empty!

Added 0.2 L of mobil 1 and back to 2 segments empty.
Fingers crossed tomorrow will be good when I measure it all again.
