The starting formula for his PPG mix is on there for his Bahama Yellow car (taken from a long stored fog light cover I believe).

Not sure if this helps but might be a better PPG mix starting point.

Pantone 143c or 7408c are pretty close, though I am matching this on screen to random photos of Bahama yellow. RAL 1028 also looks a good match.

Hello again.

Been abroad on work for a few weeks. I took the aeroplane and it was a ridiculous trip - 9 hours in the air each way up to the middle of Norway. On the way home the engine began to run rough mid-way over the North Sea. Was a bit of a reality check and I'm still recovering mentally. I don't think you can really define the sensation of doom until you are faced with the prospect of ditching in the sea, 100 miles from the neared landmass. As such, I'm in a weird mood and can't find the enthusiasm to crack-on with the car.

But I figured I should at least try, so this evening I put a few more coats of high-build on the front hood. I've decided I've done the best I can with filler, and that high-build primer is the the only way I'm going to get the thing done right. Kind of difficult to explain why - filler got it 90% there, but the last bit is a fiddle because the dented metal doesn't have a lot of strength and flexes if you push about on it. The sensible thing would be to buy a carbon hood from Nick Moss, as much as the sensible way of getting to Norway would have been in an airliner. But, y'know.

Blimey Jamie that sounds scary - you certainly seem to know how to live life on the edge! Were you on your own and do you carry anything like life jackets/life raft on board for such eventualities or is this the first time the situation has surfaced (no pun intended)?

I can understand the difficulty on focussing on the car after that wake up call but you've put so much effort into it so far you need to keep at it to get it finished for your own satisfaction and to inspire those of us that aren't anywhere near as far on as you

Hi Nathan. Not living life too much on the edge - that engine has run 700 hours without a problem and I wear an immersion suit and life jacket. But it's still a single-engine, piston-driven vehicle, and sod's law etc. Should really carry a liferaft, too, but it's only a little aircraft and I was at MTOW with fuel and luggage. So that'll teach me. I think I've found my personal limit at one hour over water. There are people that fly Cessnas etc from the USA to the UK via Greenland and Iceland - hops of 10 hours over sea filled with icebergs. I used to think that was neat and wanted to do it. Now I realise it's absolutely mental, esp when you consider many of them are delivering second-hand aircraft they've never flown before.

I'll get on with the car OK, I just need some time for my brain to de-fizz. I stopped by my local paint place and bought the top coat. It's PPG Deltron, which is expensive, but my they don't carry Bahama Yellow in any other formulation. The guys that run the shop told me the the bulk of the cost is to fund PPG's professional support, which I have no access to anyway. But it is good paint, and so far buying good stuff has been worth it - no point fighting with a cheap product when you need all the help you can get.

Bit short of time at the moment - am off to France for the weekend for a job. I need a spare day to prep the garage and mask the car, and another to put the paint on. Might be a few weeks till I get the chance.

When the engine ran rough what did you do to fix it?
Swear? Carb heat? Mags? Pray?

Years ago a mate and myself took a Cessna 172 from West Palm Beach to the Bahamas, across the Bermuda Triangle.
First stop was Bimini about 60 miles, mate had only just got his licence and never flown across water before, no sat
nav in those days jut ADF and dead reckoning and the island we're aiming for was only a few miles long.

Before leaving the mainland the coastguard had to sign you out, he also puts on board the life raft and then gave us
a small pack each with the words 'Shark Repellant' written on them....

!

Some quick thoughts:

It's quite orange-peely. Will need a thorough colour-sand.

Overall, the finish is better than I anticipated.

I don't know what they've been smoking over at PPG, but I'm pretty sure this Bahama Yellow is not Bahama Yellow. But it got the seal of approval from the girlfriend, so I don't mind.

Looking good Jamie - colour looks really different in daylight as opposed to under garage lighting. Is it quite yellow or more 'beige'?
