I’m sure I did something as I made a right mess of the garage and the drill sounds like it’s about to die

RH Inner wing today. Cleaning it back to shift all the paint & local surface rust whilst carefully preserving as much of the galvanising as possible. Hence the mottled look is as far as I’m going.



Can’t leave this little pitted strip though so that’s a job for this afternoon.

Not touched it since the last post...

But I’ve bought an (expensive!) correct shape wing support panel and a door!

Hopefully I’ll get some proper time in this weekend as the list isn’t getting any shorter and completion deadline is getting closer.

Didn’t expect the fixing positions to line up did we?



I’ve drilled the nuts off and will locate the new ones directly from where the panel ends up relative to the wing.

People who made that clearly make replacement Lambretta panels too.....

My T did not have captive nuts like that but push on clips to give much more adjustability.
Hope it all sorts easily.

The Dansk replacement had those clips but the only panel I can buy that’s got the correct form for the RHS has the earlier fixed nuts, which match the original. Think it changed at ‘73.

I’m using the Dansk panel (with clips) on the other side so I’ll have nice mismatch to upset purists

The clips give so much more freedom to move things about, I thought all 911 shells used them. Learn something every day outside my '73 only' knowledge bubble.

200 miles and a hundred hours...

Today was about doing more jobs before I could do the job I was planning to do...

The inner wing where the old wing support was fitted was a bit rusty and thin so I replaced a section of it then screwed the wing support in place. Note door and wing on and off about three times during this...

Then to finally unbox the precious one. Otherwise known as a Porsche OE ‘72 quarter. Thing of beauty other than the fact there are gentle ripples in the surface towards the back end.


A few minutes later and I’ve cut the B-Pillar section out and started the long game of getting it onto the car. Not exactly finished yet, but you can see where it’s going.


Ideally I’d move the door forward 2mm, but that’s not adjustable! Other than with a big hammer...

I’ll do a few more hours tomorrow, including putting the engine lid on, and hopefully get a few self tappers in place both sides.
