Went to Oulton Park for the Gold Cup meeting and on the PCGB 'stand'.
Nice to see John & Son in his rare Targa, Arfor in that stunning 911 SWB of his and a small handful of other early cars.
Pity about the drizzzle!

Nice to see you too, Graham and thank you for your kind comments about my car.
But a minor correction: my car is a LWB - one of the first to emerge from the factory.
Arfor.

Yes pity about the drizzle and the racing was not the best, apart from the Jack Sears Trophy (1960s saloons). Porsche pre-2000 not as well represented as I had hoped. A couple of early Boxsters, no early 996s and no 356s – not well publicised within PCGB.
The event felt like a shadow of its former self.
John

Sorry Arfor, school boy error!
Meeting was lack-luster, and we went quite early.
I think there were no Porsches there racing. If so, first time in ages.
Tedious drive back with odd traffic clusters of lorries and tractors all arriving together.
New formula not right, lots of regular clubs not there with displays, almost a bit boring!

after mashing my door mirror even more when the push rod tubes blew out i thought I'd have a look.
Stripped it down and beat it up a bit. Really pleased with the outcome. couple of little

marks that you need to look closely for.
Just need to have a mooch around halfords for something i can cut and fit the new glass

I'm starting to get the 356 ready for the Scandinavian trip. Firstly I took delivery of a Sealey trolley jack. Small and light enough to fit in the car. I used one on a track day so change the tyre in the 914. They are good. I've used some straps to tie it in. I hope I don't have to use it but will work much better than the factory jack.

Next a oil filter change. I used a suction pump to remove the old oil. Then some paper towel to clean the bottom.
I use a plastic washer under the bolt. I find this works better than a cooper washer. Also run the engine after tightening because once I didn't and oiled the entire engine bay.

Next I cleaned the commutator in the generator. Some my remember many years ago at Le Mans I had trouble with my generator. DDK members helped me clean the commutator but the bearing still seized just before the Eurotunnel on the way home. We had to do the last 5 hours with the red light on. The generator has been rebuilt by Rob at Gray's Electronics. Since then I've drilled some holes in the black band covering the contact points so that heat is able to escape.
Mrs B reluctantly got in the car and revved it while I measured the voltage. 7.3v at 2000rpm.
Thank you Rob. RIP
