Aaaah! We'll have to get Bootsy to uprate your fitness programme if you're knackered after 4 x 20 odd second runs up a hillclimb that's 15 minutes from home ........
Not much chance of getting you 500 miles from home for 7 or 8 x 50-odd second runs up Doune in a weekend then???

I went looking underneath for an oil leak after I was stuck in traffic yesterday and noticed the smoke coming out the back every few minutes as oil dripped onto the heat exchanger.
I seems to be coming from the oil crossover nuts.
It seems to be impossible to tighten them without removing the heat exchanger and oil return tube?

You wouldn't think, looking at that picture, that your restoration was finished !0 years ago ...

.
Thanks Andy. To be fair it’s just had a bare metal repaint.

We went to the funeral of our great friend, Simon Diffey, a beautiful, sad, joyous, moving and emotionally bruising day. Race in peace Diff....

Summer solstice last night, so we had our usual run up to the highest pub in the UK, TanHill .

Proper Eclectic mix of transport for our group … 2 ‘modern’ Porsches, 2 old Porsches , a 1950’s MG, a motorbike and a push bike !

Weather was stunning and for once it wasn’t like water ship down on the return trip

It *could* be that JB but don’t rule out a drip from above settling on the nut as the lowest point

Thanks Mark.
You could be right but I couldn't see anything else and being a pessimist I settled on this as being the problem which would take it out of my comfort zone.

So I think I will have to let a pro fix it ... or leave it again for another few years.
I think I am beginning to understand why perfectly usable cars get left to gather dust because of a relatively minor issue!

Wipe it over with a rag, ignore it :)

Air cooled cars all leak, it’s just varying levels

It is . Bought by a mate from up here . He’d have been at CLM but had other commitments

I think that is what I did last time.
I did think of trying to tighten it with a hammer and punch but I was worried that it might be a reverse thread.

I think it is most likely that the pipe union is leaking. The male to male union in the case are usually really tight, until you try and undo the pipe and then sometimes they decide to unwind which is most unhelpful!!. Neither are left hand thread, but I would not be tempted to attack with a punch.

Pic is of my trusty 32mm, and a Silverline fan spanner 32/36 mm. I bought it years ago, and the head is a few degrees different to the normal spanner and it has a crank on it, which is really useful for tight spaces.

I have used it several times to nip up unions that are otherwise inaccessible with a normal spanner. Might be worth a go before doing anything drastic

HTH, but as Gary says a tiny drip is not really worth chasing unless you can nip it up in situ

Wot he said.

I bought a 36mm ring spanner and cut through the ring so it slips over the pipe.

Actually you could wipe it and slot some cloth just above it and go for a drive.

If it’s from above the material would catch it, if from the nut you’ll have another drip
