One of the worst feelings, vandalism based on disrespect and jealousy, yobbos will always be around.
I've know several people in recent years sell nice cars for fear of this kind of action, shitty world we live in.

Have spent a lot of years trying to 'ease' the gearchange on my 911/3.2/alum case /915 box, esp after the mega rebuild by MB Engineering about 8/10 years back.

Been through all the usual tricks, but fed-up of occasionally snicking reverse come down from 5th on my Rennshift changer...
So, at the last Greatworth Swop Meet bought a stock 5 speed 3.2 shifter.

Been gathering dust for all that time, but bought a new factory cup for the ball end and set to fitting it this afternoon after replacing the pollen filter in the Boxster, DIY afternoon.

After some fiddling trying the perfect the Rennshift, decided to fit the stock shifter (big tower type).

Fiddled a bit more to get it just right, esp setting fore/aft to ensure the 5th gear guide tabs did not clash.

A test drive followed and all the gearbox notchy feel has gone!

I could do with getting the position of the wooded knob better height wise, but a job for tomorrow.

The width of the gate is HUGE compared to the Rennshift, so 2nd to 3rd takes a bit of getting used to, but the ease to shift gears is great.

Will use the car for the year and see if I go back to the Rennshift, but by today's quick drive, doubt it.

I had issues with a Porsche short shift kit on my 915 box.
Totally spoilt the driving experience: very notchy change and great care needed changing from 5th to 4th and avoid sticking reverse. Gary Cook rebuilt my tall tower from a later car and the gear change is now a delight.

I went through the factory short shift kit, Bob Watson told me not to, and he was right. Awful.
Then the Seiene kit on a stock shifter, not that much better though USA people raved how good it was.
Moved to the Renneshift, which is/was a whole lot better, but so notchy in action and this is without the extreme short shift ratio which must be horrid on the road or track.
I lengthened the lever by 50mm to kill some of the effort off which i drove for 5 years until today.

It was trying a friend's 64K mile SC that surprised me just how good a 915 could be this year, hence the change today.

Thus back to stock. The parts in the tower look/feel good, so just changed the bottom cup bush for real porsche part.

I also have new shift rod and UJ bushes, all Porsche to fit, but can't feel any play in the current items esp the gearbox coupling which came from Automotion in 1989!
Decided to leave alone as not broken. Parts will go into 'stock' on the shelf.

Expecting to take the car to the Caffeine and Machines air-cooled evening next week, so a good drive next Wednesday.

I can feel Andy Lightweight, Jonthan, James and a few other whispering 'told you so' if they read this stuff of mine!

After 10 lovely years I sold my 550 Spyder rep.

I drove it to Le Mans and had some great fun scaring myself and making noise.

Really enjoyed getting it to where it is now but the right time to move on.

Next stop 993. If I can find one! Missed one at 911 Virgin today which sold in an hour!

Some people look down their noses at my "beater" 911T but I love having something I don't have to worry about. As long as it's mechanically and structurally sound. I saw somebody about a respray this week but this has made me want to keep it tatty.

I collected it! It's had a short spa break with the PRS wellness centre in Billericay. I had a great run home this afternoon, Paul, Mark, Cedric and team have brought it back to where it should be. I'm very pleased indeed, thanks chaps. Sorry about the pixilated Mark, this was when I discovered I'd shattered my phone camera screen, hey-ho. W
