Dropped my starter off for a rebuild. Found a place that is 5 mins drive. I was encouraged when I saw this test bed. The chap was able was able to test it in 2 mins. Which worked so much better than my battery cables at home. He also have a housing built specifically for it. I've bought a new solenoid

I'm going to put the relay back on near the starter. The previous owner had installed an amp meter between the ignition switch and starter. Im reluctant to do this because it introduces a fuse hidden under the car.

Fitted the Fred W CDI unit with self made bracket.

Productive evening. Starter relay fitted and CDI unit working. Now I need to fit the rpm adaptor. There wasn't any time for a test drive but I will tune the car tomorrow and drive it. Nice to have an off switch

Rpm adaptor fitted with an angle bracket and test drive done. Seems to run a bit smoother but time to tune up

Tune up completed. Unfortunately the dwell angle can't be measured with the CDI turned on and then even with it off I couldn't get the angle below 60 degrees. I had to advance the timing a little.

Spark plugs not touched yet.

The car ran very nicely to Nottingham and back

The starter relay is working well. The car starts nicely.

We had a great weekend at Wiscombe Park for a 2-day Club meeting, the first day run by Torbay Motor Club, and the second by Wildlife Autosport.
On Saturday I took a Class win, despite not being on my usual pace, which was slightly frustrating, as it was a beautiful day.

On Sunday, I had our own KS sharing the driving with me, as his 914 wasn't yet ready. Unfortunately it was not just as pleasant a day, a bit cloudy and humid in the morning, and then raining for most of the afternoon. Not the ideal situation for Keith to try out a completely different car! On the bright side, the seat runners were plenty long enough for him, although he commented that he hadn't sat in a Corbeau GT8 seat since he had a pair in his Beetle in the 1960's
He does seem to be a quick learner though...........

He brought along one of his little toys (No Bootsy , NOT that one....... ) - a GoPro camera , that Luddite JW had never had in the car before. It was quite a new experience to watch, and see that I don't look quite so cool calm and collected as I always assumed I was before a run.
This was my last run of the day, when it was not actually raining, but the track was still more than slightly slippery ..........
And yes, they did keep me on the line for half a lifetime before the light turned green!

That is a VERY long time waiting on the start line!?
Looks a hard hill to me....
Thought the same a few years ago when we came down to watch while on holiday.
