I bolted the heat exchangers to the car. A bit more work to do… LHS flexible hose, back box and setting up the flapper boxes ( make sure they open and close fully) and I’m good to drop it off the ramps.

I’ve loosely fitted my new ‘JP’ special 380mm wheel to the car. Need to work out the 911 horn/indicator cancelling ring then have a think about a plan for the centre boss.

I’d like a hockey puck but I’d also like the £350 in my pocket instead

Such a great day weather wise, and the car needed a run. It started pretty much first time and Trish and I set off - to find good open roads.



Since we bought the car about 18 months ago Trish has been very frustrated that she hadn’t driven it yet as she’s had two major operations in the meantime. She sat in and changed the seat position.




Then it wouldn’t start. After just a few times turning over, the battery died completely.

I phoned a local mate, who unbelievably was just passing nearby. When he arrived we tried a push start, but it wouldn’t take. And neither of us had jump leads. It was bloody cold so he took Trish back to our place leaving me to sit in the car and try the RAC.



It’s the first time I’d ‘called’ the RAC by using the online method they advise on their recorded phone message. They messaged back very quickly, and the guy arrived in about 10 mins - a local guy. I explained I suspected the battery.



He revved up for 5 minutes having connected the jump leads, and sure enough it started.



I drove home, much relieved having thanked him and he in turn saying how much he admired the car.

So that was what we did in our Porsche today. We’ll try again to get her behind the wheel very soon! She’s still keen!

Oh dear. Might be worth checking the alternator's working if the battery went flat during a run.

Yes. Thanks Rob. The battery has done this once before after being left for a few weeks, but then ran perfectly well for many months. I should no doubt use a trickle charger. The RAC guy wasn’t very impressed with the battery brand - Lion. He suggested Varta or Bosch, but I’ll get it checked out anyway.

My H reg 1970 has two batteries, which I'm sure helps. When did they stop having those? Yours being J must be 71 I guess?

2 batteries up to end of MY73

During its restoration (by tangerineT) my 71 t actually had its 2 batteries replaced by a single battery located in the smugglers box.

I've run several early 911's over the years with a single battery without any problems (but none had unnecessary 'luxuries' like electric windows, etc) ...
