Restoring my first 914

I'm just doing my Honda bike parts on the engine and forks using a £20 polishing kit and a good 240 volt high revving Black n Decker (remember those?).

The polish finish you can get in 10 mins is amazing.

You even get the talc powder to finish it all off at the end.

Just finished working for this evening

(Besides working on my "other" cars) I've been preparing my paperwork.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm in Court presenting my case over the front brake discs, so crossing the tees, dotting the i's and all that.
Hey ho 4 hours sleep and I'll be up painting Audi Brake calipers before work.

Just a quick update this evening. The judge found in my favour over the 914 front brake disc issues discussed earlier in this thread and the vendor has 14 days to refund my money and associated court costs etc.
I’m not counting my chickens just yet, we’ll see in 15 days what happens.

So, still waiting for the wheels to get back from the Polishers. No news yesterday, but to be fair I was pre-occupied elsewhere.

Today was manic, driving lessons with my son at 8am. We went along Southsea front and it was so stormy a wave hit the wall and crashed across the little Morris Suffice to say we gave it a good wash when we got home to clear the saltwater stains!
The rest of the day was dedicated to full brake replacement inc hoses, discs & calipers on the new Audi wonderbus, followed by an evening of merryment at my works Xmas do.

All in all no progress on the 914 today which is a bit of a shock to the system, but certainly a busy day with other stuff. Fingers crossed I should see the wheels back next week and I can get them back to the anodisers and eventually on the car.

I visited the polishers today to check on progress….”er, ain’t had time to start em yet mate” was the reply. Will hav a go t’morra”
No surprise there then!
Anyway yesterday was a right off as regards doing anything as I had a car club AGM followed by Xmas lunch. As a committee member I was first to arrive and last to leave, so apart from washing my pre-sold V70 (that they cant collect for a week and I’m using the remaining fuel up) that was about it.
Today a few more tinkering bits turned up in the post including these….



So there's still stuff to play with while waiting for the wheels.

Quite correct, I've got a B8 Audi A4 Avant to replace the old Volvo, just finished this evening swapping over the front passenger seat. The car had cloth, so it just wouldn't do, needed leather
These modern cars are a right royal pain in the behind. All Cambus nonsense. I have had to swap over modules and wiring looms in all door panels from my old to new. Swap the passenger stuff for drivers (as the interior came from East Germany, and is a rare special order colour) from a LHD car. Tonight I had to strip out the new seat (remove the leather upholstery) take my old cloth seats to pieces to swap over the occupancy mats, air bag loom, seat belt latch loom and figure out the new wiring for the heat mats and electric adjustments. 6 bloomin hours solid to take two seats apart, swap over the fancy electrics and then bolt it in my car, connect up and fool the ECU into thinking it's still my old seat so that it didn't throw a wobbly, light the dash like a Christmas tree and stop me starting the engine.
Give me a 914 seat any day.

Anyways less of all that...

4 out of 5 wheels done
They look AWESOME

The last one should be finished tomorrow so off to the anodisers Friday.
I'll take my camera tomorrow so I can post some pictures.

The master of old and new! I was chuffed to have de-pixelated my c class dash with the step by step fools guide then the g/box started working backwards the week after

Yesterday I called in at the polishers but they hadn't quite finished the last wheel.

Today I called in and collected them in my van.



They look perfect.
I took them down to the anodisers straight away. They need to fully chemically degrease them and remove any residue polish and dirty finger marks prior to the final clear anodise process. This will protect and calm them down ever so lightly to match the original finish.
Hopefully they’ll be done mid week.


PS. Kev, the templates survived very well, to live another day!
