Thanks all for the kind words. The amazing bits are all Barry and Steve (the paint guru). You could bolt anything to that shell and it would still look good.
I am testing this theory with my own dubious-taste modifications.

I am slightly ashamed to admit - yes, that's exactly what I did.
As you know, there is a fibre washer that fits between the steel washer and the wing (just a weather seal). It struck me afterwards that those washers would also have been covered in paint. Mine aren't - only the steel ones are painted - so you can see the edge of the naked fibre washer if you look closely. One day I will take them all off and paint them. Or not.

Nice of you to notice. They are new old stock proper Bosch. I bought them from an American in America. He needed to put his kids through college, I had a kidney I wasn't using, so I thought - why not?
Seriously they were ferociously pricey, but not quite kidney level. And they did come from an American, I think - possibly at the LA Lit Meet or the associated Anaheim meet.

My South African delivered 1972 has "Druck". English and Africaans were both officially recognised languages at the time. So like lots of Porsche details not straight forward.

Moving on to the oil system, I've made a start on cleaning up the oil tank.
Turns out it's copper plated, which I dimly knew was sometimes done, but thought it only applied to special cars like RSRs.



I had intended to just re-paint it, but I think I might investigate a bit of copper plating first.

My ‘72 tank was copper plated, didn’t stop it rusting away though!

Hi Richard,
I have also heard that they can rust from the inside outwards so I would advise getting it cleaned (maybe stick it in your ultrasonic cleaner if it fits) and pressure tested. A common area to fail it the top of the tank. I'll post an update on my car soon so you can see what we did.

Yeah I’ve been driving around in it for months now. But that was just a flashback dream sequence in which Eric Clapton invites me to his house to teach him how to play guitar.

Back in the real world, progress has been slow.
I’m thinking of documenting it using a more appropriate medium than a website; something that chimes more with the pace. Maybe a tapestry, or an opera.
