Right, what time is it?...... 21.14. So thats 2 and three quarter hours I've been reading this thread and what a pleasure. When I started reading it I did think that at 45 pages long there would be a finished car at the end (!) but having read the whole thing I can see why it's still being built - the attention to detail, investigation and planning has been fastidious and fascinating to read - absolutely amazing. There are a few automotive build threads on the web that are as much fun to read as the writer really gets involved in the build personally, and enjoys taking the photographs too, so much so that it turns into a journey for the reader, a journey that one day I'll hopefully be able to afford to do too! - We all have our automotive dreams and it's just wonderful for you to share one of yours with us. I don't know why I didn't read this thread before, I'm just grateful I didn't click on it tomorrow night as totally ignoring my wifes requests for three hours on Valentines day would not go down well

Superb build, one of the best (If not the best) I have seen Have fun with the rest of it

Above and beyond the call of duty - I would have thought 3 minutes more realistic

Rod I can only apologise, I hope you don't think you wasted too much of your time, I feel I should send round
a bottle of wine to make it up to you. The engine is just about to go on the dyno for it's final run and should
see the car back from the body shop before the summer, so hopefully finished later this year, but then again
don't hold me to it!

I can only apologise for the lack of updates recently, things are going very slowly over Essex way but I know it will be worth it
in the end and it's going to look fantastic. Just waiting for the final paint to the front and rear bumpers and then we can start
on putting it back together, but as Bruce reminded me the other day, I'm not his only customer!

In the meantime been working on a solution to the problem of running with high butterflies and ingesting crap though the
open trumpets. For situations where you are going to be running the engine in dusty environments, like Sicily perhaps
you do need something to project the motor.

I acquired an old knackered set of SCRS manifolds a couple of years ago, they have the most amazing short manifolds and
trumpets specially made out of some type of lightweight resin material to the extra large 50mm bore you need to draw in the
air. They sit on the high butterflies in place of the trumpets. After repairing the cracks and chipped edges in the resin and
restoring their modified housing, I've just put them together.

Now the next stage is the fibreglass air box......

Geat to see more progress Mike. I've really missed your posts. What brake calipers are you using on your car? Reason I ask is that, as you know, the "new build" motor for my car will hopefully have similar power and torque to yours and yet I'm running standard '73 S/RS calipers at present. A bit worried that I won't be able to stop

Hi Tim, been hearing about your engine build, it's going to be great!

As for brakes, I think I'm sticking with my rebuilt turbo calipers for the time being, I was selling my spare fuchs
11 x 15's to go towards the Zuffenhaus RSR calipers but they're not sold as yet. I'm not too bothered as I still
can't find anybody who's actually used them in anger, they look great but it would be nice to know if they work.

You can't go wrong with the turbo ones, they work fantastically well especially with the modified brake bias bar
twin cylinder pedal box, and they look suitability period, I'm not a great fan of modern billet jobs with peoples
company name engraved on them, look a bit naff to me!

Thanks Mike. I agree about the calipers engraved with company names. Maybe OK for a modern car but not for a "classic". Your turbo calipers do look superb and perfectly "in period". I also agree about the zuffenhaus calipers, they need to be properly validated! I might be wrong but I seem to remember that Ben Coles produces replica RSR calipers but I don't know how good they are??

If you hear of any tirbo calipoers for sale let me know; I missed a set on Ebay recently

nice updates as usual, i know a fellow who's running with custom fiberglass air box, it seems they are always cracking, you might need the original aluminium SCRS air box
