Really must get better at photos, but went for bit of a drive in the sun this morning, lovely!

Wow. In one piece!

Probably not been removed in 10+ years. I was dreading the job, but taking advantage of the spring like weather braved the garage. And I still have all of my knuckles

I was told the studs always break. If you can get away with it on your 2.2 maybe I can too.

Popped out and picked up fifteen toolboxes to help tidy the garage.

I was expecting to get 4 or 5 in the boot, but:





Had my first breakdown - flat tyre on the A5.



Wheel brace wasn't in the car, causing great sadness

Luckily I managed to limp home in three goes with about 6psi, pumping up from the cigarette lighter.

Removed the engine from the rally car this morning with the invaluable assistance of 911Hillclimber who was taking a break from gapping piston rings. In truth I assisted him.

Spent £51 on some AN8 fittings and some braided oil line...

After yesterday's split tyre valve, it was new footwear all round for the lightweight R backdate.



Then off to pick up a deck lid for the orange T when tragedy struck:



The bonnet flew up and bent back while driving, cracking the paint and bending the bonnet on both corners, presumably bent the hinges, mounts etc., and cracking the bulkhead paint below the windscreen. It's doubly frustrating because the paintwork on the entire car was mint. This was supposed to be my driver while I fix up the T.

I'm not sure how it happened because it was closed properly and it had a working secondary catch. I couldn't see a thing with the bonnet completely covering the windscreen and had to make an emergency stop from about 60mph. The important thing is, nobody was hurt. I'm seeing it as a good thing that it happened now on an A road near home rather than in the fast lane of a busy motorway.

So I took the Passat to Cheshire to pick up the rear deck lid. It turned out to be in great condition, the right year and lettering still in place. Bottom edge is among the best I've seen.
