In the same vein, took the Boxster for a reasonable drive at 1 deg above zero to Church Stretton in Shropshire, to the village, coffee at the National Trust and a scoot home.
Ran an absolute dream after it's major service a few weeks ago.
Sub 30 mpg (!

!)
Wife: "this engine sounds so good"
Shoes?
Clod-hoppers.
Where did that phrase originate?

After reading this I did the same with my newly acquired 981S, but not before watching Harry’s Garage review of a 992 GT3RS. Apparently they’re almost impossible to get and selling for £100k over retail because.
Harry was almost inaudible above the cockpit row, he was surrounded by scaffolding pipes as used by town planners to destroy the centres of old market towns, the bumpy ride was extremely uncomfortable and he couldn’t drive over traffic humps or get into his local pub car park. Worst still it was white with all black fittings. He tried the 997 equivalent and found it a nicer car and beneficially smaller and more compact.
When I was a kid many relatives and parent friends ran Astons, XKs, Alvises, Bentleys etc because they were driving to Scotland for shooting or fishing and to the south of France or Italy for holidays. You can still do that in mine or your Boxsters and enjoy it.
The 981 isn’t as quiet as my Merc, but ride and comfort are similar and it’s incredibly pleasant to drive. Just a pity that I can no longer cross France at three figure speeds as I used to in my BX19GTI and XMs with the family nearly thirty years ago.
I drove on a lot of race tracks in the seventies and never enjoyed it as much as fast, cross country roads. Silverstone was as wide as six lanes of the M1 for example and yet it’s all that a GT3 is any use for.
I expect you’ll all shoot me down, but I don’t understand the obsession with this sort of car. My son has a customer with an Audi R8 V10, which was extremely fast, but 10 secs slower than one of his racers round Castle Combe. It’s an eighties single seater with a Pinto engine, worth very little and almost forty years old.
Meanwhile I enjoy driving my 356c as much as anything, it’s surprisingly fast, handles remarkably well, rides well, is comfortable etc albeit it at far lower speeds than moderns. It’s a wonderful thing and so simple and easy to work on. Early 911s likewise.

Indeed, I see no point in a car faster than my 987.2 / 2.9.
There are times when I wish I could overtake quicker and also shake off the AUDI A6 oil burners, but roads too busy round here and roads to rough.
Just getting older too I suspect!

Hoses added to the heater. Lots of tape added to the mouth to the fan because it wasn't broken.
Also a trick from the Vee Engine builders of using a spring to hold in the dip stick

Took my 356 out for a drive. Started well. Ran a bit rough to begin with but once warmed up ran nicely

I did too. After several hours of food prep, I turned a 30 second drive into a 15 mile jaunt to collect my mum for her Christmas lunch. She said ‘am I going to have to sit down in there?!’

I had to pull the car back onto the front drive after dark. On the way I couldn't resist a quick detour into town for a photoshoot under the Christmas lights. See if I can get a good December entry for next year's calendar.
