Well it had been making a noise under deacceleration so I checked for play. Hasn't been off for a few years since the rear drums where rebuilt.hashman wrote:Was it just loose or had you done some work on it Neil?
Rob, yes it's for the hubs and flywheel nut on 356s..
flywheel on 912 also

Rob it is a tool multiplier for 912/356 but I had to get the holes drilled out to work on the 356 axle

Spent a few frustrating hours in the garage with a heat gun and scraper cleaning up my super soft slicks after Anglesey (notorious for pick-up).
The problem is they are so soft anyway it leaves you full of doubt as to whether you are damaging the carcass or removing the excess. Anyhow, think I have got there finally

Took my rpm counter out and sent it to JDO to be repaired. It's always under read.
One of the connectors didn't have a wire on it?

The 356 VDO rev counters were mechanical - ie cable-driven.
I don't think the electric rev counters were introduced until '63/'64 ...

Someone on the registry is saying this might be a 64 gauge and I have an industrial engine. Which I guess doesn't have the mechanical feed to the rpm counterLightweight_911 wrote:.

Went to collect my 3.2's heads today after being machined for twin plugs.
On the way back popped in to Gary's to see the Green Monster in the flesh.
The paint and the panel fits are just out of this world, and
VERY GREEN.
Finish everywhere is a real credit to the work and prep lavished on this car; will be outstanding running to Le Mans in a few months time.

180 mile round trip to Slough Swapmeet in the '12 on Sunday. I was reminded that the heating still needs connecting up... definitely a job for next summer!
