Good on ya...!

This lot is now mostly on the car:



A predictable side effect is that it's no longer off the car. Meaning there's now some space on various shelves in the garage, shed, house, etc.
Bonus.

A little update on the assembly work.
It's been slow progress, mainly due to other stuff going on, but brakes and suspension are "nearly" done.





Being RHD there are hard lines across the luggage compartment from the reservoir, which then join to the master cylinder via some short soft lines and kinked hard lines, behind the pedal box. A bit convoluted.

Lovely work.

Electrics, other than the engine bay loom, are in and tested.

And overall it's starting to look less like a shell and more like a car.











Next up: faffing about with door innards, fuel system, oil system.

Great progress Richard. You are doing most of this in your spare time? Tremendous looking colour now there is some contrast against it.

Is the oil temp/pressure gauge original to the car? My previous car (72 RHD) had a Celsius/Druck gauge instead of Fahrenheit/Press.

Thanks all. Agree it looks better now there are some colours and textures other than shiny orange space hopper in play.

Hi Mike,

Yep. Well, I'm not really "doing" it. For example I subcontracted the refurb of the brake calipers, all the suspension components, misc plating etc. All I'm doing is cleaning things up, buying parts and bolting things together. In fact for small bits I'm not even cleaning them by hand - my ultrasonic gadget does the work. I did make some brake lines and I guess the wiring is all my own work

I like it - no time pressure, car is in the garage at my house, I can potter about doing an hour here, an hour there, go away and ponder if I can't figure out how to do something. In many cases I've done things 3 or 4 times until I was happy with the result.
As several folks who work on Porsches for a living have told me, I'm living their retirement dream - their job would be rather fun with no commute, no management tasks, no commercial or time pressure, and no annoying customer. I think they were trying to dissuade me from giving them the reassembly work (knowing that I am the most annoying customer in the world).

So... fun, but extremely slow!

Good question. I think it is correct, although it's hard to be sure.
A couple of things that lead me to think so:

1) The car came with a set of matching date stamp instruments (plausible date for the build, 09/69). Impossible to know if they were original, but it seems fairly likely.


2) My UK RHD 69 car, which almost certainly has the original gauge based on its history, is the same:

PS: All English speaking countries received the "PRESS" TEMP gauge. Foreigners got the Druck...

Re the gauge, I believe the ones with Druck had a different part number too. It certainly looks like yours are original to the cars.

Looking amazing, good work! I've been wondering about the Painted wing screws for a while now with the preference to paint wings off the car these days. Did you spray the screws then then carefully fit them?
