What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?

Given the height at the back, I reckon that car previously had a 911 engine in it and now has a 4 cylinder. Also, bear in mind US cars were set up higher from the factory than Europe.

Bit of an assumption leap that.

Just a hypothesis, and in my view the adjustable koni dampers adds to the evidence. I might be wrong but I can't imagine many of those go into a cars with a 1.6 engine. With 150kg extra in the back, the ride height would probably have been normal without any lowering needed.

Given the positive rear camber I’m gonna say it’s almost certainly a Covin built on a swing-arm Beetle chassis.

I had 165/55 with 32 in Webers in my 912. Max thought that maybe I had slightly larger than 1720 pistons. 175 does sound large

I used Ben in Dudley BH Performance for my 356. Which is 28 v 55/125. He has sorted a few cars on here.

He checked my main jets and they were different to what was stamped on them!

To my eye the rear wheels do have an unusual 'sight' of positive camber, prob wrong, usually am.
CGravity would set up perfectly I am sure.

For that amount of time in the shop, do they take everything apart and start from scratch?

Took my 911 to be stored until at least Feb 2022 or when the engine is all done and in the Lola running.
First time I've been 'separated' from the car for more than a week since 1988.

Fitted a new fuel pump on the targa in the afternoon and then went to one of my car clubs in the rain 50 miles or so and all goes well starts much better!

As an aside maybe, but I have those Koni dampers and found mid way damping position just right with stock '73 front torsion bars in.

Has your car 14" rim diameters?

1971 stamped 15” the tyres are new CN36 painfully costly but loads better than the 15 year old almost plastic ones it came with!

As per calendar thread I made a trip to Center gravity to have the suspension checked out and lowered a little...

Also, do you have yellow front sidelights, or are they within the headlamp unit? I ask because I've a USA car with yellow sidelights and H1 lamps (no sidelight within). I'm on the verge of buying UK style front lenses because I half expect to get pulled over for yellow sidelights but also think it's fine.

thanks Neil, that is pretty much what i have bought from Webcon with some f7 emulsion tubes and a couple of rebuild kits. The air jets are also a bit wild so I have bought some 180s. All good fun!

Pretty much. I will try and post the before and after specs at some point as they might be interesting. As for the the day at CG started with a test drive, then a machine to check spring rates and damping, then full check of all suspension components, ball joints, bushes etc. Chris was pretty sure the rear torsion bar had never been out, original hardware, washers all bright inside, old out etc. The big cover bushes took ages of manipulation to get out.

Front strut had a bad spacer which was binding and that took an age to re profile till they were happy. Overall the car fought a bit throughout but they were calm and just kept going but I never got the sense the clock was going to stop them sorting it 100%, really impressed with them. Then alignment, corner weights and another drive to confirm all ok.

I had 210/200 on mine. Ben moved me down to 190 to correct a lean condition from about 3800 onwards

Fitted a relay so that the current to the starter does not go through the light and ignition switch. I used to have one by the starter motor but I got rid of after having to jack the car up to replace a fuse in it and the way back from Le Mans.

I had only learnt about this relay, by the starter, because at the London flat the car refused to start. I had it transported to Chris Turner's. He found the problem in 2 seconds and refused payment. RIP Chris

Hmm... no such luck in H1 lamps. Will have to bite the bullet I think and get new lenses.
