....Those lovely end caps are somewhat let down by the bit of angle holding them to the body

.... ....Bob is none too impressed with the design as it restricts oil flow but that's the way they were!......and Graham, the coolers are just bolted straight to the welded brackets and left dangling, the image of the yellow car is #9099 the ex-Hesketh car.

Here's an odd one......

.....I was fortunate to get up close to the ex-Mexborough car #9092, on which my car is loosely based, at Hedingham last year and what a wonderful thing it is ....



.....whilst drooling over the numerous details I noted something odd in the passenger footwell....a left footrest, often referred to as a dead pedal......



....whilst fitted to almost ever early LHD race car, it made no rational sense to fit one to the passenger side in a RHD car ......it was highly unlikely that this was added during the recent restoration at Maxted-Page although quite possible that it was added for some strange reason by a previous owner, however I suspected it may have been an homologation item and therefore fitted to all 3.0RS/RSR's or maybe something that was fitted to the shells before six were converted to RHD.......Correct or not? It's had me wondering ever since!

With my car about to go into colour I needed a definitive answer and having queried this with many people I finally got confirmation I was after with images of #9099 (ex-Hesketh) and the Australian delivered RHD RS #9103....





....also confirmed as not being an homologation item it highlights how all these cars start life swinging to the left until being swayed to the right!

Now I just need to fit one.....advertised for up to £100 in certain places you can actually still pick one up from Porsche for thirty two quid......



....I would never have believed these existed on RHD cars until I'd seen it in the flesh.....mad, totally pointless and unnecessary weight imo but for the sake of authenticity it has to be done....



....naturally we'll revert to a few spot welds rather than staying with the duck tape shown!

Well I’ve never seen one - even a Google image - but its listed in my Competition Spare Parts List Nov’71, and appears on PET diagram 801-20 for MY73 (item no. 32 ‘mounting’) but who knows?!?

You don't happen to need that early style of whale tail do you? No idea if mine is genuine but it's coming off to be replaced with a standard 1970 deck lid. It's the 74 style from just before the one shown, all fibreglass with hard (no rubber) fin and no transmission cooler grille. Can be seen in the restoration thread in my footer.

....I've seen the item listed in the parts list and have now looked at PET but I'm not sure if they even relate to each other?



Obviously the Competition Parts List is primarily for aftermarket customer built cars whereas the factory built race cars would have had the dead pedal integrated during the building of the shell which you can see below, to me it doesn't look like there's any further support or fixing there? With the pedal welded below adjacent panels it's probably the reason they were left when the shell were converted to RHD.....



....when welding in the support we won't start prising apart panels to slip the bracket underneath.....we'll just make it look like we have!
