That's a fast hill!

911 and I went to Loton Park for a clubbie hillclimb.
I volunteered for the day getting cars from the paddock to the start line, bit of a game!

911 went well. front wheel wobble worse now I swopped one front for the good spare. I think this issue must be dampers.

Hoping to come up to Loton Park for the 2-day clubbie at the end of the month, now that Gurston Down no longer has a National meeting on the Bank Holiday weekend, unfortunately.

The oil pressure gauge started to dance about once it dropped randomly off the 140 psi max, so decided to change the pressure sender on the engine.
New 3.2 part from Design911 (it is a 3.2 engine.73T gauge) arrived, fitted, and the dancing has stopped, but have 70psi @ 900 rpm!

Obviously, the senders are not all equal...

Found the part number on the one off the engine and it is a 2.4 sender. (901 741 551 01)
Bob Watson must have changed it over when he wired the 3.2 engine in back in 1995.

So, £40 wasted, time to buy another one..

I had a brilliant driving day at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone today. They had a couple of lovely vintage cars in their reception area:

On the last pic you can just make out my silver 911E in the background. A great day out.

Kind regards

Went down to Wilton (following my neighbour in his Morgan) for the Wake Up breakfast meeting. Misty early morning drive over the Mendips.

Image

It’s always nice to be parked up in the Earl’s posh front garden, and I was slotted in between an aubergine duck-tailed ‘Carrera RS’ (real or not I know not) and a Toyota Jeep.

Best placement of the day was the Volkswagen bus. It looked perfect in front of the petrolhead Earl’s front door.

It was great to see this guy again dccraigmyle (looking under the e-type bonnet). We last met up with our 356’s when we all went into the Goodwood Breakfast meet together with Roy.
Dc has sold his 356 now and has a very cool 912 targa imported from Texas. He says he runs it as is, not tarted up, and really enjoys it - and the 912 motor means he can work on it easier as he’s already built 2 others.

Nicest car of the day award went to this 911t parked outside. Looked really original, and what a lovely colour. (DDK car?)

Couple of other pics. And thanks to the Earl for running the charity event, always a nice relaxed couple of hours, and a nice early morning drive from Cheddar.

Got the new correct rating oil pressure switch on the 911 this morning and all is well.
At least, I think it is as the oil pressure is exactly as it was with the old one when it worked.

Now have a nice used one of the wrong spec, but noticed this morning that the engine in the Lola uses this later sender, so will keep as a spare.
That will ensure the current one will never fail.

I spent ages under my car with gunk and then washing it off with a hose trying to clean the engine off enough to find out where the oil might be leaking. Later on I tried brake cleaner.
It is not a big leak so no puddles but over time it collects on the nearside heat exchanger and eventually smells enough for me to notice. Once cleared off it is ok for a while. It is not a huge problem as I notice I have posted about it before and the picture of the top of the heat exchanger looks the same.
Without pulling the engine out and partially dismantling it I doubt that I will find the source but someone might have had a similar leak and recognise it?

The oil collects just outward of the exhaust stubs.
I remember tightening the rocker arm bolts some time ago. I am not sure how you can tell if they are leaking.
Another possibility is the cross over pipe big nut. Again without taking the heat exchangers off I cannot really check.

Bought some smart new tyres to replace the very old Michelins that were on my car when i got it last month…..

I think they look great…might hang them on the wall for a bit before I fit them!
