DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I works a treat for me. In safari I get the dreaded 'no can do' message but in chrome with the extension downloaded and enabled it all displays perfectly.
I only looked at page 37 onwards on John's restoration thread but cannot imagine that it is any different there to the rest of it.

Yes, I had to clear my cached images and then it works a treat.

I thought it was time to have an update on my car.

About 12 months ago I unfortunately had a bump, which resulted in damage to the bumper front nearside wing and bonnet. My insurance company allowed me to choose the repairer and there was only one choice in my mind. I spoke to Barry Carter and he kindly drove up to assess the damage and provide a quote for repair. My insurer was quite happy with the quote so the car was shipped the 371 miles down to Barry. This was in the very early part of 2020. Barry carried out the metal work very quickly, we decided we would put it on the jig not that we thought it required it but really for peace of mind. As we suspected she dropped perfectly onto the Jig so nothing had moved.















Anyway once the metal work was completed the car was moved the short distance across too DC Coachworks. I had spoken to Steve and agreed that we would take the car back to bare metal and repaint the whole car. (obviously I would have to pay the additional cost of the work) I had never been happy with the paintwork from when the car was restored 8 years ago.

You can see in the picture bellow how poor the flow of the door into the wings is. The shape of the door is very poor with way too much filler for no apparent reason too. The doors are a completely different shape now!!.



Once the car was at DC Coachworks the dreaded COVID-19 stopped the world from spinning.



Fast forward to October 2020 and the car is now painted and I popped down to pick her up. All I can say is wow, it’s so much sharper than before and looks as straight as a die. The shut line are perfect and the flanks are flat and crisp. So much of an improvement from pre accident.









Although it was horrid damaging my beloved car I think the final result is a big step forward from where it was, something to finally be proud of.

Nice result John. Pictures show a much improved side profile. It always pays to use the best guys and materials. Paint job looks brilliant and there is just nothing left to say about Barry’s excellent work. Reputation above price every time.


I will never forget that sign hanging above Mike Bainbridge’s desk ‘if you think a good Porsche mechanic is expensive, try using a bad one’.
