Just a quick update on my previous valuation post (a couple of pages ago, busy thread this one 
), the jeweller's in question have agreed to a full refund of the fee (£100) complete with apologies.
Will now be booked in with a company who has a bit more knowledge with regards to pre-moons. Somlo Antiques (Burlington Arcade, London) has been recommended by Watches of Switzerland (Brighton), charge half the amount (not that that is an issue), and seem to have pre-moons going through their retail side quite often.

I've spoken with a London TAG dealer who has one of the new Silverstones coming in this weekend. He's getting a blue one in (typically if I go for it I may have a preference for a brown one 
), but at £4.5k it's not a small sum... The well known "vintage" Heuer dealers seem to offer original ones at about £1750 - £2250 depending on spec/ condition etc.
The new one is limited to 1500 worldwide - with that in mind do people think a new one would make a reasonable long-term (i.e., 15yr+) investment, or would I be better getting an original for half the money!?!

They are actually producing 1860 (Heuers birth date) per colour run (Fume being the other).
A couple of pics.
Personally? I'd buy an original but then I prefer the Red ones and these reissues are not coming out in Red.
A good original is more like £3K in the current market. There are cheaper ones out there with issues.
Will it hold it's money? Hard to say. Some of the Heuer Monaco reissues have held reasonably well but as an investment? You pays your money and takes your chances!

The new one is a gamble - might go up as in Python Monaco or stay level / drop as in Gulf Monaco. Roll the dice!
My money would be on a medium/long term rise in value as they are not about In great numbers and the style is good (pretty faithful to the original).
Top future money obviously for box papers and unworn condition - but where's the fun in that!

Interesting comments - thanks. I'd read in a couple of articles that it was 1500 worldwide, but in fact it'll be more than twice that then?
Apologies if my prices for originals are a bit out of line - I'm using prices when I looked at buying one about 9 months ago. Have they really gone up that much in such a short time then?!?
I have to say I'm moving away from the idea of a new one really (mainly due to commenst on here - so thanks for the help!) The same money would seem to get me an original and perhaps an Autavia as well....that seems more fun

Personally - I'd go for a good original anyday - just bought a great Autavia on 'beads of rice' Heuer bracelet - it would leave you change for a good original Silverstone.

Yep - that's it, I have decided! No new watch for me. I'm sure it'll be more enjoyable/ fun trying to track down a nice original, and I like the idea of having money left over!
