Just been on the Javelin Trackday site... They use Elvington a lot for track days, and a section on their November newsletter worried me...

"It is really encouraging the way everyone is taking Elvingtons noise issues seriously.Many are making a concerted effort to reduce noise levels on their cars. About 96% of the cars entering are well within the limit. With the venues Zero Tolerance Policy on noisy cars kicking in across the board of all organised events the other 4% will need to get their act together or not use the venue"

Our old girls are not exactly what you'd call quiet are they? How do you think we'd get on with the policy? When I've been on Javelin days before, there has been a mix of standard cars and some pretty extreme race cars, but don't remember anything being stupidly noisy.

Not something I've thought about before, as my VW Corrado was always well under the limits, but with my 911 setting off car alarms sometimes when I rev up narrow streets, it does make me wonder...

I'm waiting for someone to get back to me with the 'official' line, but noise shouldn't be an issue at Elvington. Are you running open headers? Stock system ?

Think its fairly stock - its a CIS model, with a fairly large bore exhaust, although I find it quieter than my old 2.0 with its Bursch unit.

Did make me laugh driving through Clapham the other day when I set off 2 car alarms on the 1 street... Must admit I was reving quite hard though...

you won't have problem if you have a stock style single outlet muffler

Noise levels.............

The noise marshal at Elvington did ask me to back off a little - he measured my car at 106.2dB static at 4500rpm. Pleased to say he was very helpful and added that he would "tip me the wink" if it became a problem.

Wonder what the level was at 7200rpm??

I think the squeel of the tyres on the MX5 drowned out the noise from it's exhaust

Radical - Quick, stops on a button, turns in great, but sorry, I still don't quite get it ! The Porsche will do more or less the same, and then you drive home, take the kids to school or whatever ! Great ride anyway though

Yep, what a day... Went home with a silly grin on my face last night, which lasted all the way back down the motorway.

Must say I can't wait for the spring and the next one...
