Glad you are happy with them, Matt.

Thanks for the purchases - funds already spent on my 356. You may have saved my hearing, in fact - among other things I have invested in a nice used original standard (not silly loud) exhaust.

Good luck with the continued parts hunting and the project in general. Do keep posting, we love a build thread...

Cheers, Richard.

Glad to have been of assistance Richard!

If anyone has any ‘71/72-dated German S spec fuel / oil instrument clusters they want to sell, please let me know!

In the meantime I’ve also bought an exhaust today - an Eisenmann 2-in, 2-out, ‘Sport’ muffler, rated at 78 dB, so only 3 dB louder than the standard one but looks superb in the photos with perforated 70mm outlet pipes and fits straight onto street adapter pipes and race headers without modification. Made of 1.4512 stainless steel, rather than T304, to give a sound which is more like mild steel and ‘Porsche-like’.

In case anyone’s looking for this kind of exhaust at the moment! (Gib Bosworth said he couldn’t remember where he got his from but only that it was somewhere in Europe, so I thought I’d better post a link here before I forget in a few years’ time and someone asks me the same question!…)

Part number: 911.361.020.03
Date: 3-71
Size: 9J x 15
Sourced: from a ‘78 Targa abandoned in a field in the Lake District! Not sure the seller on eBay knew what he was dealing with given the price I managed to secure them for!

Miracles do happen if you keep praying - and looking - hard enough!

Just got to hope they pass the crack test and close scrutiny when we get them to Gus’ …(so still praying!)

Next target: similarly unrestored ‘71 - early ‘72 7s…
Spotted some 7s newly listed on ebay today. No idea of year though, and not unrestored. Recently taken from a 69 car, apparently.

Thanks for the heads-up, Rob.

I actually managed to buy a 4/72-dated unrestored 7” rim from Brian Goff (classicporscheparts on eBay, previously owned Jasmine Porschalink) for £460, along with a load of other correct bits last week, so I just need another one like this (same date) which he is going to try and find for me:

Good news! Having submitted the NOVA and application for registration to the DVLA on 21st December, I’ve received the confirmation of registration letter from DVLA today and the registration they have allocated is TSX 911K - not bad at all, but how cool would STX 911K have been?!

So now we can start to look under the paint and see what we’ve really got to deal with. Fingers crossed…

Yes and the 911K registration number was the cherry on the cake! Sometimes the public sector can be remarkably obliging!
