I may have a perfect genuine swb dashboard that was incorrectly fitted by Porsche in the 80s. I will try an take some pics tomorrow- its nicely patina'd but totally solid....though just realised this is a rhd and myvdash is lhd!

During the last conversation with Mark before trimming the original vinyl back to our repaired core I asked “shall I apply a thin layer of foam to get rid all that cellulite on the binnacle?” no was the answer I like patina

I'll be interested to see your remarks about this question Mark. I have recently discovered a slight difference in some supposed 'original' 67S interior rear view mirrors from one to the next. Yet another piece of minutia.

Love the dash and the instruments and your general thought process. I like a bit of patina too.

Thanks for the photos Mark. Over the years I have gathered the same information as you and your pictures represent the type of rear view mirror generally accepted as unique to the 67S. However, there have been a number of ads for supposed 67S rear view mirrors which have been different. Here's one,

Ignore the top later mirror, the separate stem goes with the bottom black head.


Here another, supposedly a NOS stem for a 67S,



In some threads other owners have indicated that their 67S's have this second type and in fact my 67S came to me with this type. The connection between my car and these others is that they were all built in late 66. I have left the mirror fitted but I also aquired one like yours years ago when I first noticed the difference. It could be a crossover year thing but I have yet to find out a definite reason for the difference.

The reason is simple Mike. Porsche would use up whatever they had left on the shelf from the previous years part inventory. My 70T, thirty years in a shed, was fitted with the one year only 69 Dash.

The NOS 67S mirror that i have, was fitted with the 68 visor that has the bulge on the base of the day / night tab.

Part of my job is managing changes to body & trim components onto the production line in Crewe. Parts change all the time, always have, always will, particularly in the first year of build.
Looking at a one year only model back in the 60s when the world of regulation and audit didn't exist it's absolutely whatever you have on the shelf!

Although it had been messed with previously my Oct71 built (72MY) had much that was original which almost certainly included the doors - now every man and his dog will tell you that all 72MY cars had moulded door caps although mine were the previous vinyl covered type - if I'd kept the car to original spec no doubt people would have told me the door caps were wrong although I'm fairly certain they're original. Wrong but original

For what its worth this is the original mirror in my 67S. The chrome looks very black - but just the effect of the camera flash.
