as a reminder the base car being restored is a LHD 1972 E that had been converted to RHD some years previously. The conversion work was solid but not aesthetically pleasing
theres only one way to do it properly...transplant a bulkhead. Giving you a proper job w/ RHD smugglers box etc
luckily my virtual stockroom

contains a bare RHD shell that owes me nothing, is generally buggered (and has no chassis number before anyone starts about why are you chopping it up) BUT has a rather good bulkhead & dash
so the SVP technicians have been busy with their tin snips / plasma cutters (can you tell I just sign the cheques)

Nice one.
I converted my 73T LHD to RHD using some new porsche panels and a cut-n-shut on the lower bulkhead, look as if your conversion will be great.
You won't regret it.

Dan - surprised you didn't go back to LHD given the bulkhead removal ?

Boring reality of day to day planned usage including accessing a work underground carpark
I don't want to start the perennial rhd vs lhd debate but what I know is it's v easy to forget the maxim "fitness for purpose" and given I'm already stretching that by using a classic car to drive rd congestion hell I need to be rhd purely for practicality. IMHO the reason so many people buy these cars and then sell them q soon afterwards incl you! Is that the fact it's a vehicle as well as a hobby gets forgotten!

true it is a vehicle, so if RHD will you be doing anything with the pedal box to align it nice and straight ahead of the seat. biggest issue with my RHD 964 was the offset pedals, a real killer to the back.

When I converted mine in '93 I used a real RHD pedal assembly. I aligned this with the links to clutch and accellerator which automatically set the pedals to factory RHD position.
Then made a pedal box housing, cut the floor and welded it in with master cylinder mount etc.
I moved the brake reservoir over to the other side of the front bay.
No smugglers box of course.
Graham.

2.4S engine rebuilt with 2.2S pistons for a bit more zing and power..
has any DDKer done that? I suspect the "bainbridge special" pistons referred to in Hot 66's engine rebuild thread must be similar?
all feedback welcome: 2.4 S std / 2.4S hi-comp / 2.4 built into 2.7 RS spec / twin plug? etc

Hi Dan, do talk to Neil Bainbridge, he's a big fan of special engines built for everyday use using modern electronics with later injection systems.
Once they're set up and mapped for what you want, they give you high performance but with great reliability and low maintenance, just what you
need for a daily driver type hot rod. (and just the opposite of mine really....)
Neil is on 01296 658422 he's around today and tomorrow, but then away for a week. HTH's

thanks Neil. except its not mine anymore! i think i owned it for 3 days...never known an easier car to sell, have a nagging feeling I should have kept it.
I have a custom made loom going in this car and hence I need to spec out every electrical item well in advance
apart from std I have thought so far:
heated front screen
ipod dock
driving lights
power windows (fitted to E)
here are the lights:

All crankfire means is that the ignition timing is controlled from a sensor on the crank or flywheel as opposed to a set of points in the distributor. Porsche used the system in the 3.2 and a lot of hotrod motors use it. Can't believe Neil doesn't use it.
