No reason painted with a roller shouldn't work .... it's just a matter of spending a bit more time with the wet & dry

Exactly!!!

Great thread and car looks really good!!!!

Quite new to DDK so just happened on this thread.
Whata cracker of a project. I restored by '73 911T in 1988 and had to patch the lower area, but this is a real major job.
Really good and will follow the thread 'proerly' now.

Chris,
When i met you on the C2C I hadn't clicked that you were 'this' jury - I knew the car but hadn't associated it with you
Anyway the paint looks great - I like that idea. Car is looking cool

I have heard of very good results from rustoleum paints, mirror finishes if you spend the time flatting back etc between coats, will be interesting to see how you get on!

Great thread this, very inspiring.
I've seen some great results from rustoleum over on Volkszone. Good luck patience wil reward you with a pretty good finish. Look forward to seeing more.

Has to be said that does look a good base and finish. How many more coats are you giving it?

Going to go with lucky 7.
Coverage is looking ok, I figure 600 grit wet and dry after coats 4 and 5, 800 wet and dry after coat 6 and 1500 wet and dry after coat 7....
It at least sounds good in theory
Thanks
Chris

hi chris you must be up to 800 wet and dry by now. hadn't seen the thread for awhile and the idea of rollin on the paint ...well kind sounded less than sound...results seem to be OK how is it coming along now?

Up to 1500 grit now. The whole car has been sanded with it once, there are afew areas to go over again and the bonnet needs another coat of paint. Next step is afew days of polishing, but will probably leave the paint to harden fully before waxing. The problem is is that some areas are perfect, so it only highlights the areas with abit more orange peel...but for the basic materials and using a 4 inch roller its totally acceptable in my book
The areas around the decklid hinges have been polished and waxed...
and I did a small test part of hand polishing on the wing. Nice reflection and even got rid of a small fly that decided to settle on the paint overnight.....I'm thinking this might just work.
Thanks
Chris

I'm moving to Germany next week so this may be it for awhile, but the place we've found to live has a double garage and a sizeable basement so should be able to crack on over the winter months...
Made in Germany 1968...resurrected in USA 2007...realised in UK 2009...completed in Germany 2010ish and the circle is complete.....
Thanks
Chris

I wonder which country it will be finished in! And when
Bon voyage Chris (and Mrs Jury and the twins) - maybe we'll meet up again somewhere.

Good luck with the move Chris, pity we wont be able to see the finished article on a Northern meet any time soon, but your resto really is coming together now for probably less than most pay for a replacement Porsche panel - a great project and a credit to you
