Boxster passed MoT easy, but have found yet another front coolant hose has started to weep. These never end!

Set to with enthusiasm, and after an hour got the rusty blighter out, new part arrived Sat from OPC. Such a poor modern design.

Water cooling will never catch on!

Wife fancies a late model AUDI TT...

Never see air-cooling again due to noise and inability to stabilise engine temp for emissions... Audi TT better buy than Cayman or Boxster.

Finally managed to get my '12 running properly again for the first time in what seems like months!!!

Today was the culmination of various evenings messing about sorting a load of small bits...

Fixed horn wiring and installed new machined aluminium hockey puck horn button
Rebuilt 022 by PRS to cure some running problems - thanks PRS
Reset timing to 30 degrees
Installed chromoly pusrods
Spent an age balancing and finding 'lean best idle'

The reward as a great hours drive, engine definitely feels smoother and a bit punchier than before and less of a flat spot a low revs. Still a bit more fine tuning needed but happy to be back on the road!

Well done. You can go high in the max adv. 32/34. The fuels here are good enough

The difference was noticeable, seat of pants description... I now get that little push in my back when accelerating which was not there before, the engine feels like its come to life!

I discussed it Mike at PRS and he recommended a rebuild before addressing any issues with the carbs. Quite a few carb problems can be traced back to the dizzy which certainly appears to be the case for me.

When I had a rather long saga with my MFI 2.7RS motor (another tail back in the day), we went through quite a process, full engine build - it was shagged. Went for high compression and machined for tin spark but didn't get round to it. Completely refurbed the TBs/stacks, had the MFI pump refurbed, new injectors, you name it... It was fab. Went to Bob's for final tweaking on the rollers, marginally fabber, but maybe not quite there.

Final stage which as everything else was shagged was no great surprise, we re-build the disti. Unbelievable difference, literally made me laugh out loud when I first tried it!

Those were the days. What a dog that car started out like! I almost wish I kept it other than remembering what a state the shell was in! Maybe should have gone for a reshell.

What constitutes a Dizy re-build?

Shaft bearings, the 6 peak points cam, advance springs,obvious points, cover, cap but not much else is there?
Can you buy the bearings, springs and points cam ?

Spent some time on the 2.4 this weekend. The car has been running rich for a while now and after a bit of shuffling in and out of the garage over the last few weeks whilst I was doing some improvements , resulted in plugs getting fouled and the oil getting a bit too much fuel in it.

So, oil change and spark plug change and then onto the mfi. I have dual band afr readout in the car with a lambda in each ssi to monitor any changes I make. Previously the car was performing really well, just rich with a slightly high tick over . Before adjustment the afr’s were about 11.3 at wot 7000rpm in 4th and whenever I got in from a drive my clothes would stink of exhaust fumes .

So, 2 clicks lean on the main rack and at WOT in 4th at around 7000rpm my afr’s are 12.8-13.2 which is what I was aiming for ( it smells much better ) . A rebalance of all the air correction screws on the throttle bodies resulted in a nice steady tick over too .

Drove to Homebase in 914 to collect some emulsion. Smiled all the way there, and all the way back.

Nice... Its so satisfying being able to get stuff sorted yourself!!
