OK-ish... Wasn't last in the class (but second to last). Practice run 61 secs, 1st timed run 58 secs (overjoyed!), 2nd timed run 60 secs (tried too hard and over-drove), 3rd timed run 60 secs (raining - most others lost 2–5 secs on previous best, so I was happy), 4th timed run, went off track! Doh!

Car behaved well but two things: I need better brakes. Stock 914/4 brakes are not really up to the job. I could also ideally do with a shift light – watching GoPro footage is a bit scary at times when you read the tacho...

All in all, I was happy but frustrated. I could have done better but had trouble concentrating. I found it hard to get 'in the zone' as I do when I drag race – I guess because it was all a bit unfamiliar to me. But everyone very friendly and seemed to like the 914 – got asked twice how I could bring myself to compete in a car that looked so nice.

Rain?? Cornwall hasn't changed then! That's not bad, running the same time in the wet as dry.
Yes, I agree on the brakes. Our 914/6 had S calipers up front, and standard 914/6 at the rear, but still didn't inspire confidence. Changing the rear to a set of Eric Shea's alloy 914/6 GT calipers made a huge difference to the braking power, and as importantly, the balance. I really have brakes that I can trust now. The only bad point on the rears is that they still have the bloody awful venting clearance and handbrake design. It's just taken me all day again to get the handbrake working somewhere nearly well enough to (hopefully!) pass MoT.

Making the most of the great weather ... had a run out into the Durham dales with a friend . These are the best driving roads in England , but relatively busy today with plenty of bikers holding things up.

Good to read it went well, I think that set of experiences are true for every 'first-timer'.
These events show a car's weakness very quickly and everyone leaves with a list of jobs to get done.
It gets worse as the realisation in time and endless mods is tweeking the driver will gain an awful lot more.

Hope you continue with the endeavour.
Hills are another task and will thrill perhaps even more. Do Wiscombe as a taster!

As ever though, the best outcome is driver and car in one piece and more money to spend!
Don't forget the tyres.

All looks great. Just back from the open roads of Scotland in the Boxster, understand the feeling, but lots of motorhomes up there, few bikers, human or motor powered.

Looks like it goes well Keith, sounds nice too. Gearshift seems sweet too. I always struggle with cone blindness on courses marked out like that - I have no idea why but always amazed when people get round clean. I wouldn’t!

Did they not make you wear gloves?

No gloves - but I know what you mean about cone blindness. On the last run, a previous driver had 'rearranged' the cones, so I misread the turn-in point for the final right-hand K-turn, as a result of which I turned in too early and...blew it!
