steve,
give steve burrage below a call and have a chat, he's a nice guy and tell him Jason graham gave you his number. He's been watchmaking for a looooooong time.
Thanks Jason - Steve sounds just the sort of recommendation I've been looking for. I'll give him a call tomorrow.
Incidentally, you wouldn't know of any place where I could buy a top quality croc or ali strap would you? What I have been offered on 'the high street' have been pretty pathetic!
Thanks again,
Search for ATG straps. They have some high end croc ones. I have one of their racing straps on my Monaco

have a hunt around for red5 too, he does some great hand-made straps (mstly for panerai but everything really) and they're not TOO expensive

What are peoples thoughts on the Heuer Montreal?
Feeling quite tempted by one. Rough value scale?

I like the Montreal. The blue faced white dial is the one I really like or a nice PVD (not easy to get in good condition)
There's also a later one with a 7750 movement which are also nice but with a slightly more modern tone.
The early 70s ones tend to go for £1200-£1800 (based on condition)
The later 80s ones can be had for about £700 upwards.

Great choice Jan. A blue or white dial montreal has got to be one of my all time favourite watches. I would love one if I had the funds. Very cool watches.
