Yes unfortunately my time with BIB5566 has come to an end. I was never really planning on selling the car but my life situation has changed a lot since I bought it. I have since married and moved house, upgrading in size but also mortgage payments and renovation bills. I needed to free up money in order to do a lot of house projects and at the same time these old 911 take a lot of money to run/lookafter. In addition to this we wanted a car we could use more for long distance trips and breaks away which we felt these old cars are not the best for these days (I know a lot of you would argue against this) - but we wanted something a bit easier to use and not to have to worry about so much. I watched a Harrys garage recently which highlighted what I'm talking about where he took his Lambo to Italy, he struggled to find anywhere he could park it overnight in and around cites he wanted to visit (security), he couldnt drive it at night (bad lighting), had to drive around whole weather systems to avoid the rain with the car steaming up and bad wipers etc etc. On top of this theres things the missus worries about like breaking down, leaving luggage in the car, no aircon, seatbelts/safety etc

I have unfortunately had the same thoughts and concerns lots of times over the last few years and invariably when doing weekends away I have ended up not taking the 911, it was only really getting used for local shows and day trips out (if the weather was good). Over the next few years I want to start doing more longer trips home & abroad etc and ultimately we decided that selling the car and getting a more modern 911 while also freeing up some cash for things we need on the house would be a win-win even though I would miss the car greatly. So in the end I have sold it and bought a 993 which I hope will give me a better balance between the classic aspects of car ownership and Aircooled 911 whilst also being more practical and useable. I needed a car that I could still drive trouble and worry free, at night, in the pissing down rain, in rush hour, on the motorway, with a happy wife, but also something I'm enthusiastic about owing and I'm hoping my new 993 fits the bill.

I know I probably haven't done everything perfectly with BIB5566 but I like to think I have done a pretty good job on the whole and that the car is much better position now than what it was, and that the new owner is able to only improve it further. I wish them luck, I'll certainly miss that MFI induction! Maybe I'll start a 993 thread.

Sorry to hear you've parted company but it sounds as though it was for all the right reasons and yes..... start a 993 thread!

Your thinking is a familiar conversation with us too.
We use the Boxster more and more, about 5k miles per year, used to do 3k in the 911.
Wife does feel nervey in the 911 more and more the older we get, yet it has never failed us on the road since 1990….

Hope to see a 993 thread!

nothing wrong with your thought process ...i'm in the very fortunate position to be able to pick and choose a porsche for different trips, and imho a 964 / 993 is a perfect 'classic' porsche that can hold its own with modern conveniences etc . So many ddk'ers have 964 / 993's so yes a thread would be great.
